Haven’t posted much here in a while.
Last weekend my wife and I raced another HYROX mixed doubles.
We finished about 4 minutes faster than our last race.
These days, training and performance is less about having unlimited time to train and more about figuring out how to keep progressing while raising two kids and working full-time.
That means being more intentional.
Train hard. Recover well. Use the time you have. Stay consistent.
As a former Division I and professional athlete, I still want to feel like a beast, compete, and see how fast I can get.
I also want to stay strong, fit, healthy, and capable and a role model for my kids.
That’s the lane I’m in right now.
More to come.
Monday Morning Work
A. PUSH BLOCK: DB Bench Press + Burpees
B. PULL BLOCK: DB Deadlifts + Inverted Rows
C. BURNOUT: Hammer Curls + Bench Dips + Lateral Raises - 15/12/9
3 years ago, I was introduced to HYROX at a previous job. I actually met with members of their leadership team and learned more about the principles behind Hyrox and how to train for it.
It was just starting to grow in the U.S.
As a former strength coach who spent 10+ years working with Division I athletes, I thought the concept was great (community, consistency to be able to track progress, tough branding, great environment)
But I also remember thinking:
Why the hell would anyone do 80 meters of burpee broad jumps or 100 wall balls?
That seemed really dumb.
At this stage of my life, it checks a lot of boxes.
I still get to lift.
I still get to train hard.
But now I also have a reason to work on running, conditioning, endurance, and overall fitness.
And I have something measurable to chase.
Tough Saturday EMOM x 5 sets
DB Single Arm Snatch x10
DB Gorilla Row x10e
Squat Jumps x20
Push-up with knee tap x10e
Goblet KB Reverse Lunges x10e
