the negative case against AI gets stronger every day; even Altman admits the problems are very serious with no obvious solution.
the positive case, meanwhile, looks weaker every day. a quote from Apollo’s Torsten Slok:
“Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech. Revenue per worker is… flat for the S&P 493…. Profit margins are… flat for the S&P 493…. No signs of AI boosting [measured] productivity growth…. Mainstream corporate America is pulling back and starting to view token spending… as a cost center…. Mainstream corporate America does not need the latest model and is unwilling to pay for it. As long as agentic AI and token spending are confined to a small part of the economy, the macroeconomic effects of AI will be very limited.”

AI should really be called IA (Internet Assistant) because that's all it is.
So-called "AI" isn't intelligence -- it isn't even artificial intelligence. It is glorified Internet Search programmed to mimic human-like responses, and lazy summaries generated with no comprehension.

The AI hype in biotech is just silly now. So your agent took only 12 hours to design a new drug? Great! Now, you still have to spend 5 years running trials and proving it works in humans without killing anyone. If AI does drug design like it does my stock reseach, there are going to be a lot of dead test subjects.

Would be a fun homework assignment to calculate how many thousands of B100 and petabytes of HBM chips are sitting in crates, unlikely to be used for years, yet pushing core PCE up by 0.5% this year

2027 is about to get crazy: according to Morgan Stanley, hyperscaler and neocloud free cash flow to hit its most negative point in 2027, with the shortfall even bigger once lease payments are include: just shy of $600BN in cash burn.
In other words, the year with the biggest capex bill is also the year with the biggest funding gap.

Musk had a person in a robot costume once.
Then Musk had a telemetry operated bot being controlled by someone offstage.
So calling out this stunt show as being a stage act isn't outrageous. He's done it repeatedly. And Optimus robots still aren't ready for primetime. And he's claiming he'll be making 10 million of them a year.

Everything Yann said here is roughly correct, and Musk knows it, which is why he responded like a 14-year-old.
Calling @MKBHD’s video “hate” is misguided and highlights the nearly insurmountable issue the Tesla community has with criticism.
There was plenty to criticize about that unveiling and I thought Marques did an incredible job.
He is becoming a great force pushing against the growing movement in tech and now automotive of over promising and under delivering.

Why Jensen is all-in: of the $1.6 trillion in '27 capex, Nvidia gets $700BN.

$1.6 trillion in projected AI capex drives 5% of 2027 sales and 25% of sales growth.
Half of that capex is debt-funded.
Would be a pity if something happened to the debt market.
I can’t help but notice some Americans are using Tesla demoing a shell concept car hopping for two seconds as some kind of global claim of technical superiority.
Well…
Thrust-based vertical manoeuvring? Developed in Britain in 1957, culminating in the Harrier Jump Jet, with the P.1127 making its first hover in 1960.
And the upside-down car stuff? That’s fan-generated downforce, already demonstrated by British car company McMurtry with its electric Spéirling, which has been destroying track records around the world for the last few years using that exact technology.
So let’s not confuse demonstrating an existing engineering principle for the first time in a Tesla prototype to inventing the underlying technology. And the difference is, both the Harrier and McMurtry are real world products, not vastly adapted prototypes designed for a single demonstration.
Rule Britannia, spiffing stuff boys and all that. 🇬🇧
