Turns out my beef working with Solid Queue was Timeout.timeout not working, which broke workers when they timed out. Happens frequently with LLM calls.
Fortunately I like to design bugs out of systems, so I fixed Timeout with TCP_USER_TIMEOUT in Linux.

If you want to see code examples that compliment this video, I've got a post up on @BeautifulRubyHQ. This is probably the best thing to share if you want to send to others.

Girl Scout cookies and Phlex on Rails!?
I'm sending 4 boxes to any address in the US (can't ship i18n 🫠) for people who buy the course at beautifulruby.com/phlex
After you purchase, I'll reach out to get your address & cookie preferences (real cookies 🍪, not browser cookies)

For those who've watched past @BeautifulRubyHQ RTFSC episodes, I'm curious how you felt about this one? I ditched the 10-min time box and took my time.
I felt better about it. In past episodes I feel like I skipped tons of stuff or made over-simplifications.

Post awesome Ruby Black Friday deals (they can be yours or others) in the thread below and RT so others can save a few bucks and help out other Rubyists.

Here we go, another @BeautifulRubyHQ course!
This one is about building content websites inside of Rails with Sitepress.
Sitepress has the same ergonomics as Jekyll so you don't have to break apart your monolith or pay rent to Webflow, WP-Engine, etc.
BeautifulRuby.com retweeted
Figured out a much more flexible way of defining page model collections in Sitepress that use about half the lines of code and I think is more understandable.
Targeting a 5.x release in anticipation of beautifulruby.com/sitepress. Pre-order now to support the project!

It’s getting there. The first sentence needs some work, but the main idea is having content live natively inside the Rails monolith.
Thoughts?
It’s amazing how much time it takes to distill a message.

This week I’ve got a ton of RTFSCs for that will show how I built @BeautifulRubyHQ, including content management with static files, email browser activation, payment with NoCheckout via stripe, and other things.
Sub at m.youtube.com/@beautifulruby… if you want to watch them all.

Here's the Official™ launch article. 💪
Goes into slightly more detail than the video.

It's done! I shipped 45 videos for the Phlex on Rails course @BeautifulRubyHQ.
Why did I do it?
Because too many teams reach for React when what they really want is a way to build UIs in Rails with components.
Phlex delivers that without the complexity of JavaScript.

It begins! A fork of RubyGems, Gems dot Co-op.
The folks who were maintaining and operating RubyGems before they had their access cut off by @rubycentralorg are behind the new project.
I feel excited and said about it.

I didn't realize the course updates I've posted for the @BeautifulRubyHQ would be at trip down memory lane for my summer.
So stoked that I've finished the videos, but I still have work on the login system. I'm going to keep $289 pre-order open until that ships, then $329.

Here's the video stack I'm using to host @BeautifulRubyHQ video content a few of you asked about.
I cooked this up because I didn't want to be subject to YT's collateral algorithm damage that took my channel down this morning and @jorgemanru's yesterday.

Imagine doing this instead.
This is why I ❤️ Phlex so much. When views are Ruby objects, you can do way more with them, like attach a Turbo module to the view and broadcast it directly.
This is the kind of stuff I'm covering in the @BeautifulRubyHQ course 💪

This is a nice way to implement variations for 10's of Phlex components if you don't want to reach for a gem.
What you're seeing is endless methods and nested classes. Some people will hate it, but I kinda love it.

Phlex on Rails: Week 4 Update
I've been sending these updates to the folks who have pre-ordered and getting lots of amazing feedback. 🫡

The Phlex on Rails course outline is complete!
Here's where it landed:
1. Integrate Phlex w/ existing Rails apps
2. Building forms with Phlex components
3. Using with Hotwire
4. Build a Rails app 100% from Phlex
There's lots more, but those are the major points.
BeautifulRuby.com retweeted
Nice thing about Phlex is how intuitive it is to tweak page-level settings, like Turbo meta tags, from individual page views.
I plan on covering more sophisticated scenarios, like OpenGraph, SEO, etc. in the paid course.
💪💊
