Dr. Zeest Khan shares her story of struggling with life-altering illness and the importance of claiming your identity instead of allowing a disease to define it. ow.ly/aWsy50ZWlX7 @LudwigLin

I didn't know what my colleagues would say when I met them this weekend. The ASA is a prestigious medical society. I didn't have research to present. I'm not even working in the operating room anymore. I have long COVID and I now work with people whose lives (like mine) have been impacted by the unexpected. I didn't need to worry. EVERYONE wanted to learn about long COVID. Almost everyone had been personally impacted or knew someone who had chronic illness or another health scare. As anesthesiologists, we are experts at saving bodies, but we don't talk about ways to save our own. Thank you @ASAMonitor and @LudwigLin for highlighting my story. There are more of us in this boat than you might think.

They call it a "mystery disease." Christina Applegate was told she has MS. Now, her doctors say she doesn't. Her symptoms haven't changed. She's still unable to work as an actor, sometimes unable to walk. "I'm back at square one," she says. People with long COVID know how scary it is to see your body fall apart with no answers. Women in particular face delayed or misdiagnosis of neuro and autoimmune conditions. What am you supposed to do when you don't even know what's going on? I'm wishing her health and safety. And for more precise medical science. variety.com/2026/tv/news/chr…

3/ We recently sat down to talk about Eric's new book: *Live Like a Citizen*. The title says it all. Citizenship isn't a status, it's a practice. Check out this from The Renovator: democracyrenovator.com/p/dan…

Here’s to a celebration of life, of music, of art, of creativity, and of the beautiful power of inclusion. When we come together across our differences, when we recognize the gifts and talents in each other, we create something greater than any one of us could create alone. Like a marching band, we make better music when everyone has a part to play, when every person is valued, when every gift is welcomed, and every voice is heard. We are a stronger people, a better nation, and a more beautiful world when we recognize the dignity, worth, and extraordinary potential in one another. This is the power of a beloved community. May we see more of this. May we be more like this.

Wishing a very happy 100th birthday to the iconic Opal Lee! Our nation owes you a deep debt of gratitude for your lifelong leadership lifting up Black communities and preserving our history, including the fight to make Juneteenth a national holiday. It was such a privilege to get to celebrate with you today. ❤️

A personal long COVID update: I'm doing really well! Five years ago, I was largely confined to bed. These days, I'm more active, even traveling with my family. I still respect my limits, but the difference is remarkable. I feel great, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

15 years ago, Mark retired from NASA but he has never stopped serving our country. He wanted to be there for me during my recovery, even if it meant retiring from a job he loved so much. @CaptMarkKelly, I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished—not just in space, but right here on Earth. I love you endlessly 🚀

Here is to a multitalented man. Here is to someone who, when his trumpet failed him before thousands of people, didn’t panic. He simply picked up the microphone and kept going. And perhaps most of all, here is to those who turn massive mishaps into memorable moments. Who meet an unexpected setback with calm, creativity, and courage. Who take a terrible turn and transform it into a tremendous triumph. Sometimes, if we don't give up, adversity doesn’t get the final note. We do. op: @dbacks

And as this noisy week winds down, here is a leader to truly give our attention to. Pope Leo is a man who devotes his life to raising others up, all people! He uses words to calm, to inspire, to remind us all we are lights in a dark world. Give your attention to this leader, and let it be a guide. Watch how he speaks, listen to his tone, see how others react to him. Thank you, your holiness for welcoming @specialolympics athletes into your circle of life. Thank you so much for moving humanity forward, as well as showing love and compassion to these amazing athletes. I thank you for your example, for being a beacon of light when we all so clearly need it. May we all choose to include! specialolympics.org/about/pr…

Gloria Steinem was an icon and a trailblazer. Her advocacy - from championing reproductive freedom, to fighting for workplace fairness - moved our country forward. All of us can and should draw on her legacy of leadership and advocacy to strive towards making America a better place.

Gloria Steinem was a pioneer in the fight for women’s rights. She opened the door for generations of women, fighting for abortion access, affordable childcare, fair wages and full gender equality. She was a brave and heroic figure. She will be greatly missed.

Generational change doesn’t happen by accident or fate—it takes leaders like Gloria Steinem who work hand in hand with so many others to build a lasting movement. The decades of energy, brilliance, and advocacy she devoted to women’s rights helped so many of us see that we belonged at the tables where decisions are made. Her dedication helped illuminate a simple truth: When women can stand in their power, they invite everyone else to stand a little taller, too. What a light she was for me and so many others. What a debt we owe her.

Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem. Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked. Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

Happy 80th birthday to my friend George W. Bush! Your friendship—and that of your father and your entire family—has been one of the great gifts of my life. It has always reminded me that long before we’re politicians, we’re fellow Americans and, above all, human beings. And for the next month, I’m especially grateful to finally have someone older than me! Wishing you many more years of good health, happiness, and friendship. Our country is stronger when we remember that what unites us is greater than what divides us.

Birthright citizenship is more than a law...it is a promise that if you are born here, you belong here. On the eve of America's 250th birthday, may we always keep this promise: "We The People" means all of us.

Doctors get long COVID. Doctors' loved ones get long COVID. We don't often share this publicly, because we're used to being the white coat, not the hospital gown. Thanks to Dr Molly Phelps for sharing. Wishing her and her husband the best. fnih.org/patient-engagement/…

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.” Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

I'm starting this year the same way I ended the last one—with hope. The road ahead may be challenging, but 2025 showed us that change is possible when we stand together. So let's carry our energy forward. Let's keep pushing, keep holding our leaders accountable, and make progress in the fight to save lives. Together, we’ll build the safer future we all deserve – I am sure of it.
