Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many - including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always ❤️ you.

Extracts from article in Spectator 16th August by Brendan O’Neill: Behold the human wreckage of the cult of diversity. The tragedy of Jason Arday is that he was both built up and destroyed by the ruthless machinery of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). The academy made him into the golden boy of its philistine project of ‘decolonisation’ and gave not one thought to what the consequences might be if his thin story unravelled, as it inevitably would. No one can deny it now: wokeness makes false gods and real tragedies. . . This is the poison chalice of the state religion of diversity. It lays traps for the very people it celebrates. It handpicks members of ‘the oppressed’ for moral anointment and institutional gushing while leaving them open to exposure as others start to query their credentials. That’s the toxic bargain of identity politics: it builds teetering pedestals for ethnic-minority thinkers, meaning their fall from grace is often twice as fatal. And what a pedestal they made for Arday. They worshipped him as ‘the best in the world’. They beatified him as a black wunderkind whose very presence in a place like Cambridge might help to wash away its sins of whiteness. They canonised him as a living monument to ‘decolonisation’. It was precisely this, their giddy, narcissistic desire to manufacture a kind of black saviour, that made them turn a blind eye to the questionable elements of Arday’s CV and life story. They sacrificed their due diligence to the god of decolonisation. And Arday suffered. He was both poster boy and sacrificial lamb of the diversity crusade. Even as he gained from it – reaching the dizzying heights of a Cambridge professorship – he was being damned by it. The foundation of myth and sand his starry career was built on was untenable. Its collapse was a given. It is a testament to the ideological blindness of the inhabitants of our ivory towers that none of them foresaw it. . . . The Faustian ruthlessness of it all is mindblowing. . . . The media is the only institution in this entire tragic scandal that did its job properly. Journalists found a story and they told it. It was the academy and Arday’s colleagues who failed to do their jobs. Who failed to prize merit over identity, and failed to foresee the public embarrassment that would befall their falsely promoted friend. They ignored the truth – the media found it. I and others have been arguing for years that the politics of identity is a disaster for all, black and white alike. White kids are overlooked, black kids are patronised. Whites are branded ‘privileged’, blacks ‘oppressed’. Whites are seen as the beneficiaries of historic crimes who must atone for past sins, blacks as history’s perma-victims who require the gracious helping hand of the state. We are demonised or infantilised according to the accident of our race. Enough. Let our monument to Jason Arday be the restoration of the true ideal of equality. We couldn’t save Jason but we can save merit from the monstrous jaws of identity.

The Humanities PhD plagiarism apocalypse is coming. As the Jason Arday case shows, few expect anyone to read their thesis (in his case, even his doctoral advisors clearly didn’t). Somebody soon is going to set AI on the millions of them; some will be read for the first time, and a list of all the plagiarists going back a century will be spat out. It will be a massacre of reputations.
The greatest secret of the social sciences is that nobody reads any of this stuff. It's all just busy work to keep a giant grift going, so you can have typos in the title of your PhD dissertation and nobody will notice until you have a plagiarism scandal.

Our child got a phone age 11, in 2020 when she was SO lonely and isolated. We'd just moved countries and the local kids were being shits. Within 10 days she "came out" trans. We didn't know WTF was going on but when the school found out they sent us for mandatory "counselling". The 2 psychs (wearing masks on zoom) spoke with such thick Cork accents we didn't understand most of it. They then asked to speak to her alone. I listened at the door. They didn't even ask about the horrible bullying the local kids had put her through, and she spent 15 mins saying "pardon" because she couldn't understand them. Then they told us she was trans and we had to affirm or she would khs. Sent us breastbinding info and sent our GP a letter telling him to refer us to the gender clinic. They put our name down for some bizarre "Big brother" type programme where an adult trans person, a total stranger, with no clinical training, was going to pick her up and take her for an ice cream so she could talk about her feelings. We of course refused, but as the Irish CPS has a horrific reputation for removing kids whose parents don't toe the line, we were deeply uneasy about all of it. We left Ireland shortly after that, returning to South Africa, where the govt does NOT trans your kids. We found out that she had been groomed online, on her phone on tiktok and other social media, lovebombed by ADULT groomers like Fuzzz99, Jacob Tobia and Jeffrey Marsh (If you think you might be trans, YOU ARE TRANS! Cut off any family that doesn't affirm the REAL you... etc). She begged for blockers and T, which we refused. We did the pronouns and the name change but were very firm that hormones etc were NOT on the table. Natural puberty hit like a freight train. She started wearing push up bras for the breasts she used to tell us she wanted amputated, nails, hair, make up became super NB. Noticing boys, falling in love with her body. She's now the MOST FEMME creature imaginable, has a long term boyfriend, is fantasising about the names she wants to call the children she told us she was never going to want. Of the 14 trans kids in the support group we joined in 2022, only ONE is still "trans" and he's a super femme, super autistic "aromantic" and "asexual" gay boy. One of the other girls now has a deep voice and facial hair and is furious at her parents for puttin her on the T she begged for - that she had said she would khs without. We have been through absolute hell. But thank the Goddess I trusted my instincts and KNEW MY CHILD. It was a trend, a gaslighting cult, an inhuman attack on the family. We were told we were bigots for daring to question any of it. Affirm, affirm, affirm was the only avenue allowed. The mothers have their voices back now and we are NOT GOING TO SHUT UP ANY LONGER.

Coz of the 60 day thing in the US I think Trump can’t have a pop at Iran without Iran having a pop first? So send warships through Suez to entice them to have a pop. If they do then the US can start up again. If they don’t then more ships will go escorted.

This line is being peddled almost entirely by journalists who believe they are the cultural and intellectual superiors of the caricature of Dubai expats they have created in their heads, and who are barely veiling their resentment at their comparatively modest finances.
“It’s impossible to weep for them.” If you move to Dubai for the tax benefits, you’re also accepting the downsides of living in “the Wild West,” says @gilescoren. @StigAbell | @KateEMcCann

It was a successful experiment to understand the effects of space on lip filler and Botox.
What was the point of this?

Always wondered about this exact thing.
Are there any studies on the effect of newspaper paywalls in a country when the paywall is mostly on one 'side'? eg in UK the left-leaning news outlets are free access (Guardian, BBC, Sky News, etc) whereas those on the right (Telegraph, Mail, Spectator) are mostly closed.

If you could attract a Princess you’d do it. You can’t. That’s why your “harem” is made up of low rent prostitutes spat on by society and your sons are all bastards.
If he was capable he’d do it. He can’t.

Deepseek R1 on what its release might mean for NVDA... Conclusion DeepSeek going open-source is likely a net positive for NVIDIA, as it would: Expand the AI developer ecosystem, increasing demand for NVIDIA GPUs. Strengthen NVIDIA’s position as the backbone of AI infrastructure. Align with long-term trends favoring democratized AI adoption. However, NVIDIA’s stock performance will still depend on broader factors like: Competition in AI chips (AMD, Intel, custom silicon). Execution on next-gen GPU architectures (e.g., Blackwell). Global AI investment cycles (enterprise, cloud providers). For investors, NVDA remains a key beneficiary of open-source AI trends, but monitoring its innovation pipeline and market dynamics is critical. Let me know if you’d like further analysis!

The answer depends on if you actually want to talk to the people at the dinner or not. Buffet style requires plenty of time away from the table which makes for quite a disjointed time socially. Served to the table is far more fun if you actually like your companions. If you are at a work party then buffet all the way...
I voted (1) and I bet a lot of the people voting (2) secretly want to go for (1) but feel like they want to be the sort of person that prefers (2). Why? (1) has more optionality. If I don't like the food on the fine dining menu (assuming it's a fixed 10 course tasting) I'm hungry

This is legitimately funny.
After finding out that Tesla founder Elon Musk is a nazi from the mainstream media this week, i’m switching to a Volkswagen EV! Who’s with me?
