Our new paper "Assessing the overlap between fishing and chondrichthyans exposes high-risk areas for bycatch of threatened species" lead by the amazing @fredericomaioli out now in @ESAEcosphere

Fantastic job by @fredericomaioli defending his PhD thesis on community structure and dynamics of sharks and their relatives in the Adriatic Sea. Very important work for paving new avenues for better shark conservation. Couldn’t be more proud. Well done!
Now out in @STOTEN_journal

Happy to be presenting our work on the impact of rapid environmental changes on costal fishery resources @EMBSsymposium today. #EMBS55
@BlueAdapt @RECecochange @SYKEinfo
In our new paper out in #JFB @theFSBI we quantify the environmental impact on fishery resources in the Baltic Sea over 40 years.

Including the 16 most harvested fish species in Finnish fisheries, we found that...
The relative importance of the climatic variables as predictors of species occurrences changed markedly through time and differed across zones and taxa. Temperature emerged as the strongest predictor of variation in species occurrence across all regions, decades and taxa
(6/8)
Despite complex responses among taxa, these shifts in relative niche position of species were most pronounced at higher latitudes due to the spatially non-uniform pace of climate change, being most pronounced in the north
(4/8)
Quantifying relative shifts in niche space is key to understanding how species respond to ongoing and future climate change, as organisms may be more sensitive at the margins of their niche space
(3/8)
Aiming to resolve the dominant imprints of climate change on ecological communities, we focused on the occurrence of 1,478 species of birds, mammals, butterflies, moths, plants, and freshwater phytoplankton over a 1200km high-latitudinal gradient and 4 decades
(2/8)
In our new preprint “Macrosystem community change in lake phytoplankton and its implications for diversity and function” we show a nationwide restructuring of lake phytoplankton communities in Finland over the past 4 decades @RECecochange @Blueadapt

Much looking forward to hear about the great reshuffling of species in the Anthropocene today! @FranzEssl1 @RECecochange @helsinkiuni @OEB_Helsinki
Today we welcome Franz Essl @FranzEssl1 from @univienna to our weekly @RECecochange seminar @helsinkiuni
Today our @RECecochange seminar series is starting again and we have a fantastic line-up of speakers for the next 6 weeks!
I'm happy and excited to welcome @hhillebr1 as our first speaker today. @LifeSciHelsinki @OEB_Helsinki
It’s official, turns out I do like in person conferences more than online meetings … #BSSC2021
Come for the science stay for the drinks!
Looking forward to @len_thom 's talk, happening now! Join with the link below if you are too! bit.ly/RECOpenWebinar.

Are you at #OikosFinland2021 and interested in changing #phenology of #fish larvae and how we can detect and model it? Come see my talk, at 13:30, 4A. We'll have a look at the Baltic herring. @OikosFinland #OikosTogether @RECecochange @BlueAdapt @merikallas @JarnoVanhatalo
Interested in species and trait responses to environmental change at community levels? I'll be presenting a nice framework for doing so, showcasing results from epibenthic and phytoplankton communities, in tomorrow's A4 session @wcmb2020

Thrilled to be welcoming @sMarten_Winter from #sDiv @idiv to our @RECecochange seminar series today.
We look forward to hearing about the #Macroecology of Invasions & some side stories on #biodiversity indices
