YOU’VE CHANGED has a cover! A book for anyone who’s ever tried to shed an old skin—or watched someone else do it and thought, "Really?" It’s about people chasing transformation, others denying they’ve even jiggled their ideological thermostat, and what change looks like in an age of political derangement, tech disruption, and psychic despair. It’s about how much of what we “know” about change is wrong. Thanks to everyone who talked to me over the last six years: psychedelic reality benders, name-changers, gender and sexuality reimaginers, political team-hoppers, octogenarian personality shifters, reformed killers, change-obsessed psychologists, and my dad—a breath and meditation teacher who once wrote a newsletter on the “art and science of self-transformation.” (Apple, meet tree.) Out April 28 from @WmMorrowBooks and (with a different cover) @PenguinUKBooks. Pre-order link in bio.

We spend half our lives building a self and the other half dismantling it—on the therapist’s couch, in the gym, or with blind optimism every January. @_emilybootle on @BenoitDLewis’s YOU’VE CHANGED: prospectmagazine.co.uk/cultu…

Barney Frank, who I was lucky to profile nearly two decades ago, was funny, prickly, impatient, incredibly sharp, and surprisingly tender—all within the span of about five minutes. One thing I remember from my time with him was how skeptical he was of political rallies and marches. “The NRA never marches,” he told me dismissively. He thought too much activism prioritized emotional release over persuasion, negotiation, and arm-twisting. I think he sometimes missed that feeling part of something matters to people, that rallies and marches are important not only politically but psychologically—helping people feel less alone while also building movements and community. Whether I agreed or disagreed with Barney, hanging out with him was never boring. Rest in peace, Barney Frank.

Here are the GOONERS, in a masterful @harpers piece by the brilliant @danielkolitz. Total honor to have worked on this with Daniel—hilarious, tragic, one of the few pieces I’ve read lately that actually captures “what’s going on.” Proceed! harpers.org/archive/2025/11/…
