Demanding Senate Republicans back Gaetz as attorney general and Hegseth as Defense Secretary is the 2024 version of forcing Sean Spicer to say it was the largest inauguration crowd ever.
These aren't just appointments. They're loyalty tests. The absurdity is the point.

The Victorian government introduced 6 rental reforms today after a significant amount of pressure from the community. These reforms are:
- Penalties for landlords withholding bonds without evidence or receipts;
- Ending no fault eviction (again, lol - but apparently properly this time) - I have many thoughts on this, namely the fact that unlimited rent increases are effectively no fault evictions and they are not banned, therefore the government has not, in fact, ended no fault evictions (again);
- Capping the cost of breaking your lease to a max of 4 weeks rent;
- Banning real estate agents charging for background checks;
- Removing charges to pay rent on third party apps; and
- Requiring landlords to provide extra keys on request.
These are genuinely commendable, great reforms from @VictorianLabor , and I hope to see more on the way soon.
However, ultimately none of these reforms will address the root cause of our rental crisis. Unless something is done about renters being unable to afford the homes they live in, they will continue to suffer - and the landlords in parliament who write and pass these laws will continue to profit.

For all the “glad they’ve finally addressed this problem” about the NACC and Robodebt: we still haven’t seen the RC report sealed section, still don’t know who’s named in it, no one has faced any investigation or consequences, still don’t know if the NACC will actually take it on
