Definitely one of the coolest papers in the last several years from our friends at @Berkeley_ions.
A "tin-can telephone" connects two ions through a metal wire, offering a system for remote ion cooling

I've spent the last week non-stop thinking about this awesome experiment from @Berkeley_ions.
In it, they couple the motion of two ions by using a floating electrode to mediate the charge.
This could allow for remote cooling and even gates!
So cool😍

Really excited to see this results from @Berkeley_ions on coupling two ion traps with a wire on the arxiv: arxiv.org/abs/2107.00851 These experiment started in 2007 @iqoqi, talk about perseverance ⏲️

How do you explain quantum computing to your dog, or to other important beings in your life? Check out this series of stock explanations by @Liv_Lanes and @RyanFMandelbaum. Spoiler: we did not successfully teach a dog quantum computing. qisk.it/3v2FHEE

99.94% two qubit fidelity (prepping a bell state in 35us) woth #TrappedIons from @GeorgiaTech
They used laser based gate and also an 8.5K ion trap. Interstingly, it looks like they could have gone warmer and still have had "similar" fidelities🧐.

The physicists at @UDelaware have made a portal with all your favourite ions and transitions in one place!
They're still expanding it and would appreciate input from the community.

Our work describing how trapped electrons are sensitive detectors of charges -- including millicharged dark matter -- is now up on the arxiv. TL;DR version: electrons can be both light and cold, making them very sensitive indeed arxiv.org/abs/2104.05737

This is a remarkable work on one of ion traps biggest enemy, surface noise. By @Berkeley_ions: arxiv.org/abs/2103.04482 They give a fascinating look into the microscopic processes of surface noise by applying ion milling and thermal annealing. Smoother surfaces show higher noise!
