Demolition scaffolding in Journal Sq. First national grocery built w/ no parking in JC will go up here, in a 55-story tower with 800 apts, also car-free. I dont shop at Whole Foods, but hopefully other grocers will follow their footsteps and open car-free urban supermarkets here.

Three towers. 1,200 homes. Just 665 parking spaces. Here’s the building-by-building breakdown: • Tower 1: 30 stories, 434 homes • Tower 2: 38 stories, 363 homes • Tower 3: 36 stories, 403 homes This rendering shows just how massive the transformation will be and how dramatically these towers will reshape the skyline.
Jersey City could get its first new light-rail station since 2011. As @BetterBlocksNJ reports, the proposed Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stop at 18th Street would be funded through a major transit-oriented development featuring: • 1,200–1,500 apartments • Three towers rising 30, 36 and 38 stories • Income-restricted housing • Street-level retail • ADA-accessible station access Build housing to fund transit. Build transit to support more housing. Jersey City approve it!

This project has a long way to go before it ever passes a council vote or breaks ground but @JerseyCity, @Emily4Hoboken, and @NJTRANSIT should all be aligned on the need for a new station here. Housing and transit complement each other. Build more housing by transit.

The Westview project at Culver Ave & Route 440 in Jersey City is moving again after four years in limbo. On Monday the developer brought two versions to the JCRA: 3,079 homes in four towers of 30-56 stories, or 2,780 homes in four 20–22-story towers.

We told the JCRA we support the project. It moves the light rail west and adds housing, a park, and a grocery store people can walk to. We aren’t taking a side on the PILOT or on tall vs. short as either version advances more transit-oriented development in similar massing.

Amazing how many more people now use this space in JC's Bergen Square than when it was 6 parking spots!
Green patch used to be like 6 parking spots with very little turnover @JerseyCity

Who could have seen this coming? Oh, wait, we did. That’s why some of our members spoke about it at the council last year. All but @yousefjsaleh voted against renewing an agreement that would have funded affordable housing in these Newport Tower. youtu.be/s-DvRrjBPJo?si=VETZ…
Residents at risk of losing their affordable housing units in four Newport towers are lobbying city and state leaders to protect their homes from market-rate rent increases that could take effect in the coming months. The protections that until recently guaranteed their affordability status are now gone, according to the property owner. jcitytimes.com/tenants-counc…

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (“HBLR”) hasn't added a new station since 2011. Lincoln Equities wants to build one at 18th St and Erie St, on the Jersey City–Hoboken border. Last night they brought the plan to the JCRA board. 1/🧵

One thing we'd change is the parking. The plan includes 665 spaces, about 0.55 per unit, for a building next to a light rail platform. The redevelopment plan requires that much but it shouldn't. Rezoning is the time to fix it. It will help the finances of the project too. 5/
