This animation from 1932 is a masterpiece. It was the first cartoon to win an Oscar.

Ran across a hair-raising line by sixteenth-century writer John Foxe—“Not to understand what was done before we were born, is to live always as children”—and I think the complete lack of curiosity most people have towards the past is one reason everyone is now twelve.

She was born in England in the '30s. Her father left the family, and her mother raised her and her sister. Her mother couldn't afford to send her to college, and besides, in that time, only 1-in-10 English women went on to be college students. So, she worked a series of secretarial jobs and saved up enough money to eventually travel to Africa hoping to work with animals. That's where she got a gig as an assistant for Dr. Louis Leakey, who recognized her aptitude in noticing things the scientists of those days did not. At 26, with no formal scientific education and limited training, she did her first field research and discovered that chimpanzees use tools, completely upending her field and the broader scientific community overnight. Such a long, extraordinary life, and it all started with a young woman who didn't accept the lot she had been given. Rest in peace, Dr. Jane Goodall. Thanks for everything.

This is the crew chosen to advise on our broken food system? Only one ‘farmer’ and without being rude (and from the internet) he’s an industrial-scale pig farmer/lobbyist who no longer farms? There are so many people with great ideas and loads of credibility and we get this
Bit gutted not to be on this Advisory Board tbh minister @DanielZeichner 😕 but then.. I'm a bit too much of a trouble maker..🤣 Hope something gets delivered by this crowd.. So much broken- for nature, our health, farms, climate, economy etc #foodstrategy gov.uk/government/news/leadi…

Am I drunk, because I’m finding this hard to follow We used to be paid to produce food Then politicians said we want to pay you to produce public goods for public funds for the same money…

A few words on the massive consequences of govt suspending applications to the Sustainable Farming Incentive last night. A disaster not only for farm businesses & the rural economy, but also food security & our nature & climate targets.

“It a paradigm shift from ‘I farm this land until I choose to sell it’ to ‘I farm this land until the government choose to take it’. It’s daylight robbery”
“If you care, care now, not ten years in the future when it’s all gone. We need your support now”. Making no apologies for how cutting and clear my commentary is. @DefraGovUK @SteveReedMP @RachelReevesMP @Keir_Starmer do the right thing. You are ruining our country.

Our moronic food system Ban pesticide products here Make U.K. products more expensive Then import cheaper food from foreign farmers produced with the banned pesticides and undermine our farmers
❌ Imported cereals, fruit and vegetables have been found to carry residues from 48 pesticides which British farmers are banned from using. READ MORE: ow.ly/rFnu50UoWKs

The massive gap in farming profitability compared to real world wages is partly m, if not the biggest reason this new tax rule doesn’t work. I have had a lot of people shouting on X about how farming is flawed, why don’t we sell up because we’re obviously inept business owners etc etc etc. The short answer is that food is too cheap. Why? Food is an essential that most aren’t willing to pay more for. Im privileged that a lot of people choose to use our farm meat business and that’s wonderful, but around the country this isn’t the case for a lot of farms. We have had a generation who deem the car they drive, the clothes they wear, the flashy holidays etc more important than the food they buy. But before you reply and get cross 😂… This is not their fault. This is a culture that’s been instituted in this country for a long time. It’s good for the economy if your people just want flashy stuff. It means they spend more than they need, borrow more than they need, work more than they should, need holidays because of the intensity of life, need nurseries and childcare to barely earn enough to pay the nursery in the first place and so on. The only winner is the government and this is what they want. We live in a world that’s so difficult, demanding and flawed that we need “the stuff” to be able to cope and thus food became worth less to us. But who does this benefit? Have you ever realised how you’re not actually happy the week after you have just bought that new car, new watch or lastest television? I guarantee the novelty has gone. I also guarantee the excitement of your favourite food or favourite drink has never faded . The fact is food is something we should prioritise and have a great deal to do with. We should know everything about it, every detail. We should have a hand in producing it and always be cooking it from scratch. This is why farming in the uk is sacred and needs your support #backbritishfarming
