Since 2010, 🇹🇷 has canceled over 92 GW of planned #coal projects—almost x5 its current operating capacity, says @GlobalEnergyMon's new 📘 Boom & Bust Coal 2025 report.
But despite objections, the Afşin-Elbistan plant was granted more units in 2024.

Not only that—since 2018, #coal plants w/project-level retirement dates have increased x6.

BREAKING: Finland replaces coal with wind power
With today's closure of the Salmisaari coal plant, Finland’s coal use drops below 1%.
By replacing coal with wind, Finland has reduced costly coal imports, lowered energy prices, and attracted investment.

Today, Finland's coal-power era all but ends—4 years ahead of schedule—with the closure of Helsinki’s Salmisaari coal plant.
Wind power has surged since 2020 and now provides 1/4 of Finland’s electricity, pushing coal and fossil gas’ combined share down to just 1.6%.
This rapid transformation has been driven by Finland’s 2019 decision to ban coal by 2029, sparking significant investment in wind power.
Finland’s wind sector is now the country’s second largest source of electricity.
By replacing imported fossil fuels with domestic wind power,🇫🇮has boosted energy security, cut emissions,& enhanced its competitiveness.
Now the govt must finish the job—fast track the closure of remaining coal plants & x2 down on renewables & flexibility.
