Women Leading AI in Development.
When young women and girls see others thriving in AI and technology, it expands their vision of what they, too, can achieve. The Women Leading AI in Development panel at #GirlsInICT Day featured trailblazers redefining the digital landscape
The Panellists shared what a real week in AI looks like, common beginner mistakes, and how to start learning using accessible resources , no expensive tools required.
From online safety for girls to breaking barriers in tech, one message stood out: AI is shaping every industry.
As part of our Girls in ICT Day Celebration, 17 young girls from diverse tech and non-tech backgrounds, including high school leavers, undergraduate students, and university graduates, took the stage to pitch AI applications they had designed and built.
This comes after they completed a two-month intensive bootcamp, where they learnt Design Thinking, Python programming, AI model development, and prototype creation. With these skills, they turned real community challenges into practical, tech-driven solutions.
They didn’t just explore AI in theory; they created with it, solved problems with it, and confidently showcased what they built, earning recognition for their innovative ideas.

“AI is reducing the gap between tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy people.” — Moira Onek
At this year’s #GirlsInICT, our project lead highlighted how AI is making digital tools more inclusive and accessible, while urging action against bias that reinforces gender and inequalities.
During #GirlsInICT, AI became accessible, interactive, and empowering.
Through a session led by Grace Gaso & Cliff Levai, participants gained confidence to question, explore, and step into the AI space.
A powerful celebration of possibility.
#GirlsInICT2026
The line between technology and everyday experience is increasingly blurred, and AI sits at the heart of this evolution. Ensuring girls are represented in AI development enables diverse perspectives, leading to more equitable and ethical solutions.

From solving problems to understanding language, AI is already shaping industries like healthcare, education, and finance.
For girls and young women, understanding AI is not just about using it; it's about shaping how industries are designed and governed.
#GirlsInICT #WomenInAI
The digital divide is not just about equity but providing access and opportunities that strengthen the foundation for an inclusive digital future.
#GirlsInICT #DigitalInclusion
Inclusive AI starts with inclusive opportunities.
When girls and women are underrepresented in AI development, those lived experiences are left out of the systems we build.
