Treatment of Hypothyroidism that Contains T3 is Associated with Reduced Risk of Dementia and Mortality.

Could a once-weekly subcutaneous levothyroxine injection replace daily pills? A Phase 2 study by @Bianco_Lab and @XerisPharma found it was well tolerated, achieved thyroid hormone targets, and was preferred by many participants.

The University of Chicago is conducting a voluntary research study to understand brain fog in hypothyroidism.
If you are interested in participating, the link will direct to the survey and additional information about the project.
Thank you!

Massive goiter (left) versus a control thyroid (right)!! The goiter is due to inactivation of the thyroglobulin gene. It compensates for inefficient T4 production in dead thyrocytes, thereby keeping T4 levels normal. Kudos to the Arvan group!! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4180…
In Vegas for AACE2026 (@TheAACE). I am impressed with how much this group has grown since Paul Jellinger, Jeff Garber and others started it. Congratulations!!

In episode #373 of The Drive, I sit down with Antonio Bianco, M.D., Ph.D. (@bianco_lab), a world-renowned physician-scientist and expert in thyroid physiology and metabolism. Antonio explores the complex biology of thyroid hormone production, conversion, and regulation.

Great work by @FedeSalasLucia !!!!!
Thyroid hormones are important for neurodevelopment during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Here, @FedeSalasLucia @Bianco_Lab & team @UChicago model suboptimal thyroid hormone levels during the early stages of cerebral cortex development, revealing an unappreciated role for T4 in promoting early fetal cerebral cortex development: insight.jci.org/articles/vie…
Preexisting hypothyroidism in 5,700 patients undergoing bariatric surgery increases the risks of short and long term adverse outcomes. Risks were higher in patients who underwent gastric bypass academic.oup.com/jcem/articl…
We lost a brilliant scientist and a great colleague. Davo will be missed. search.app/CXx1Y9NCNGgPtgfq5
We followed 105 patients before and after developing hypothyroidism (on LT4). Those patients with lower T3 were at risk for dyslipidemia (47.5% vs. 27.3%); even after adjusting for confounders (adjusted OR: 3.6). Monitoring T3 levels should be considered.

🚨 New NIH Public Access Policy goes into effect TODAY! Research accepted for publication on July 1, 2025, must be publicly available as soon as it is published. This date was moved up from December 31, 2025, to ensure radical transparency regarding the research NIH supports.

This is the data showing increased mortality despite treatment with LT4. To be discussed tomorrow at @ITC2025 .
This is an impactful study that should reset the approach to the treatment of hypothyroidism. I will show details on Sunday, during the 17th International Thyroid Congress in Rio.
This is a remarkable testimony of a patient’s journey through hypothyroidism. All should read it and reflect on how providers approach patients with thyroid disease. Kudos to Mary Saunders!
