What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

Wear a Burka any day of the week whatever the weather, 365 days of the year and expect no police attention because they don't dare give you any, despite the UKs current terror threat being SEVERE and Islamic terrorism being far and away the biggest threat we face. #TwoTierPolice #TwoTierJustice

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing. Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed. What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community. At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades. That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him. My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

SHE DIED WAITING Heather Earley, mother of three, has died waiting for her money. @PostOffice kept her waiting so long she ran out of time. Impressive logistics. Lawyer @SimonMGoldberg (well worth to give him a follow) shared the sad news today. Heather Earley was one of 555 postmasters who took the Post Office to the High Court and won, and she died before getting her redress, the money owed to put her life back together. He points to a @BBCNews article from 2024 on victims who died before getting redress. Winning in court and never seeing the money is a rare talent. Heather Earley was a mother of three who ran a local shop with a Post Office counter in Mossley, Newtownabbey, in Northern Ireland. In December 2013 the Horizon computer system said she was £10,000 short. A computer said so, and in the Post Office computers are never wrong.. She says one customer kept using a flaw in the system. Every time that customer withdrew £100, the system added £100 to the balance instead of taking it off. I wish my bank worked like that. Heather Earley called the police, and the customer was prosecuted and convicted. That put the blame on the customer, and the Post Office still demanded the £10,000 from her, took money from her wages and refused to give it back even after the conviction. Crime solved, victim billed ... She borrowed from family and maxed out three credit cards just to buy stock for the shop. She cashed in £50,000 of her pension to save the house and clear her debts. Her village lost its post office and its shop, a truly generous service to the community. In 2019 the Post Office settled the group case for £57.75M. Around £46M went on legal and funding costs, which left roughly £20,000 for each of the 555 people. The judge, Mr Justice Peter Fraser, had said the Post Office at times acted as though it answered only to itself, and it seems to have taken that as a challenge. Reports say at least 350 Horizon victims have died before their final payouts, so at this pace the scheme will finish the moment nobody is left to be paid. Heather Earley wanted justice and enough money to rebuild what was left of her life. Simon Goldberg says the lawyers and other parties who held up and nickel and dimed her redress should feel nothing but shame, though shame does not appear to be billable. Stop fighting these people and pay them before it is too late. Heather Earley never got her cheque. RIP Heather

That’s so sad! This is such a huge injustice. They should by all rights, be held more accountable for this travesty! My ex husband & I, we ran a village shop & Post Office….we just narrowly missed getting caught up in all this, the lady who bought from us, she did get caught up in it though. I’m so upset for this lady’s family. 💔

The simple fact that Huw Edwards isn't doing time in jail, for possessing & trading Category A images of young children, is a matter of sheer amazement. A predator of children, Edwards got off lightly due to a starstruck judge, & playing the mental health card. I'm disgusted, in a Jimmy Savile kind of way..

Sounds they don’t want to be accused of Islamophobia so covering their back . Usual spin
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has responded to the unacceptable online abuse directed at a Met officer who received an award at yesterday's annual Police Federation Conference. PC Fiona Shaik Umar was recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made for women in policing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The vast majority of criticism was not because she is Muslim, but because she was not following very basic gun safety rules. Her finger was on the trigger and she pointed the barrel of the gun at a fellow officer. gunsafetyrules.nra.org hunter-ed.com/muzzleloader/s… x.com/BasilTheGreat/… x.com/WilkieisBack66… x.com/LozzaFox/statu…

The police will keep well away from this . Young black kid playing loud music or vaping becomes confrontational end up in roll around , allegation of racsim copper loses job . There fixed it.
Andy Burnham has announced people on buses who vape, play loud music, litter or threaten others will face £100 fines from today. This is one policy I actually agree with. Basic courtesy on public transport shouldn’t be optional. If you can’t use headphones, put your rubbish in the bin, or stop vaping indoors, you shouldn’t be surprised when there’s a consequence. The only question is whether it actually gets enforced.

The question is are the dogs biting more black people than white and police dogs are institutionally racist ?

5 years since David Amess was butchered to death by an Islamic extremist POS. He was being watched by prevent, they met him for a coffee and decided he wasn't a threat, the Islamist murderer laughed in court at how easy it was to tell prevent he wasn't an Islamist.... Five years on, still no inquiry into Sir Davids death. Two years since Southport, the killer had been caught in a public place with a knife on multiple occasions previously, stated he wanted to stab people, he was referred to prevent 3 times and wasn't arrested. 4 months since Ann Widdecombe was bludgeoned to death by an allegedly far left killer. This week, MI5 told you to Worry about the "Far Right......" People who, pop dinghys, attach flags to lamp posts and throw plastic bottles around...

Keir Starmer *took the knee* for George Floyd. He *spoke in parliament* about Adolescence, a fictional Netflix series. But when Henry Nowak, a young white lad, is *stabbed to death* by a Sikh man and HANDCUFFED by police while he was dying, Keir Starmer says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The man is morally repugnant. I utterly despise him.

Monster, Aamer Araf repeatedly stabbed a mother until she lost consciousness, then grabbed her 7-month-old son by the legs and smashed his head into the walls. When police arrived he used the injured baby to try and avoid arrest. He got 8 years (plus extended licence) for GBH. Now under this appalling labour government he’s eligible for parole. Apparently nearly killing an infant is the sort of thing the system likes to reassess after a few years inside.
