Vince Zampella is the missing link that would have alleviated incoming mistakes in restructuring at EA. Clearly a massive loss for this era of the game industry.
After more EA layoffs last week, a new report cites workers at the company complaining of "terrible" morale and "heavily pushed" generative AI like Claude. One called EA "a cold dead place that's slowly decaying as leadership pilfers every last cent." destructoid.com/ea-workers-c…

To be positive in an arguably negative era for VR- I do think the Quest 3 hardware is exceptional. It hits the clearance for incredible VR if you take ergonomics aside. I've done a lot of research on this dynamic we find ourselves in the VR market today and an often missed point is how Quest 2 holds on as a peripheral. What do I mean by that? Quest 2 streaming a PCVR mod will run you only a PC-peripheral cost. Trivial cost for the value add. Steam Frame and even Quest 3 are way outside the effective value proposition to "jump in" your top traditional 2D games with VR. It isn't worth it unless you are already very into the medium. What we are seeing in PCVR Mod wave is gaming being proven, without a doubt, an exceptional part of the medium. Players love diving into their games. What was missed, and still somewhat resisted by traditional VR devs, is players want to be in their favorite IP. Mainstream players do not want built-for-VR unless it can be AAA like Alyx. $50 on a Quest 2 gets you there. A peripheral cost. Once you can sell me at this used Quest 2 pricing I believe having a headset becomes like your keyboard, mouse, or monitor. VR will be an expected feature of ALL PC games.
Meta announces that headset sales are down compared to last year and reiterates that it is not going to launch a new headset unless there is a generational breakthrough. As much as I'm not happy, I think it is the right call to make. Releasing a Quest 4 that is just a small upgrade over the Quest 3 would make no sense, because you just obtain some enthusiasts making an upgrade and that's it. Meta needs to launch a headset that makes a lot of people wanting it. The Meta VR Glasses are a good example, because they generated some genuine hype around them roadtovr.com/meta-declining-… #VirtualReality #VR #Meta

Someone rebuilt Fallout 3 and New Vegas from the ground up as full VR games, and it looks incredible. KUPOkinz has put thousands of hours into it. You handle every weapon yourself, reload by hand and have a full body. Every animation was posed by hand in NifSkope and Blender, and the whole thing runs from a single Script Extender DLL. Both games are playable start to finish in VR. The demos show firefights in the wasteland, the Strip casinos, Megaton, exploring vaults and ruins, looting, managing inventory and trading.

As mobile devices grow more powerful, and high end hardware out of reach, we will see a growing shift to what players might play on. This means smart devices and the like. As in we will soon be operating in an expectation of players not purchasing a box for the living room.
Next Gen consoles will be $2000 by the time we get there.
