For (some) ppl who inject, there’s a very real self-harm aspect to their use.
The poking, digging, bleeding, repeatedly drawing the plunger; can be as addicting as the drugs to them.
They tend to use often & are less likely to OD, but injuries & infections will kill them first.

2 things:
1) "Tough love" approaches to substance use disorder are just abuse with aphorisms & a heaping helping of moral judgement attached.
➕
2) Abusive abstinence only rehabs don't need "reviving" because they never left.
We need #HarmReduction funding now.
Fentanyl is ravaging San Francisco. Some city leaders and nonprofits are reviving talk of a get-tough method of rehab emphasizing abstinence that has been largely rejected throughout the U.S. since the 1990s.

Tonight, President Biden pledged to increase #harmreduction funding.
2 weeks ago, the Biden Administration stood down when harm reduction was the subject of racist, disingenuous attacks.
We’ll stand with you Mr. President. But you have stay standing with us. #SOTU2022

Poured my heart out to my ex-sponsor as to why I was leaving our ‘women’s group’ & NA. I did it via email so I could say everything I wanted to say & w/o interruption. It took her a month to respond with “The spiritual part of our disease is our total self-centeredness”. 1/9

I want y'all to look at this tweet.
Look hard at it.
Read it over & sit with the fact that 22 days after he wrote this David was dead.
If you work in healthcare know that when you take away MAT & treat people like cattle, you are killing them. Their blood is on your hands.
Psych ward switched ALL my meds; withheld Bupe for days & cut dose; added Effexor (making me feel crazy); released me to @hazldnbettyford prog bc of my history but this is about depression, not drugs (like that book—the something of air?)
I was/am ravenous to be loved up at home

As the chair of the Opioid Workgroup, a diverse group of stakeholders that reviewed the @CDC's proposed guidelines for prescribing opioids, I am happy to see they are more patient-centered and include strong language to reduce misapplication.

“Fewer than 30% of adults with [opioid use disorder] receive treatment, and only 1 in 10 report a need for treatment”
This study analyzing NSDUH data finds that there is a significant disparity in provider & patient assessments of opioid use disorder treatment needs
