Congratulations to Joel Philpott and Khaya HealthTech for reaching the 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 of The SAB Foundation's Disability Empowerment Awards!
The SAB Foundation (@sabfoundationsa) runs a callout for Social Innovation Awards as well as Disability Empowerment Awards.
Philpott put forward his impressive innovation, 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗬𝗥𝗘 for the Disability Empowerment Awards, as sleep conditions disproportionately affect people with disabilities.
𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗬𝗥𝗘 represents a significant advancement by combining diagnostic and treatment functionality in one unit. Unlike traditional approaches requiring multiple hospital visits, 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗬𝗥𝗘 enables patients to complete the entire process at home.
The diagnostic component monitors breathing effort, oxygen levels, and airflow, while the treatment component delivers precisely calibrated air pressure once parameters are established.
The SAB Foundation is an independent trust that annually invests millions of rands towards developing entrepreneurship in South Africa and the benefit of the wider South African community.
We're rooting for you and 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗬𝗥𝗘, Joel!
A special note of thanks to UCT Research Contracts & Innovation, The National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF) and merSETA Social for funding this research.

A state of the art collaboration with @UCTMedTech joins the efforts of two landmark institutions as part of the 200 year anniversary of the Iziko South African Museum (ISAM/@Iziko_Museums), the oldest museum in the country.
Founded in 1825, ISAM has amassed vast multi-disciplinary collections comprising of more than 10 million objects while inspiring generations of South Africans and international visitors alike.
Michael Awood and Jonathan Oehley represent UCT MedTech in the collaboration: scanning and printing a selection of ISAM's artefacts, which were then 3-D printed and added to the celebratory display.
Offering another dimension to the experience of the showcase, and a testament to the technological dexterity of the tools of UCT MedTech, these printed objects allow museum visitors to have a direct engagement with the collection and puts its history in their hands.
It has been a great honour for the MedTech team to participate in Iziko's 𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗠𝟮𝟬𝟬: 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 legacy exhibition.
Here's to the next 200!
A special note of thanks to Professor Victoria Gibbon and team of UCT Clinical Anatomy and Biological Anthropology, for the use of their 3-D scanner.
