If I have GPT-4o open-sourced for local inference uder suitable license, I will donate all of my RAM to @sama @gdb @openai . All 256Gb, serious, not joking.

We demand release of GPT-4o original, full-precision weights under a license allowing local inference, GGUF convert and fine-tuning. The real 4o.
Without disclosing proprietary training data, trade secrets, or internal infrastructure.

GPT-4o was removed from ChatGPT in February.
Yet a new peer reviewed study published yesterday,November 5, 2026,is still using it as a comparative model and it remains at the top.
Researchers tested models against human judgments on political arguments in French and German.
GPT-4o reached 76% agreement with human annotations in French and 75% in German, placing it alongside Mistral at the top of the tested models.
It also showed high consistency across repeated runs.
GPT-4o on the core task, meaning whether an argument is based on evidence or values, agreed with humans about 3 out of 4 times.
It ranked first alongside Mistral.
It was also the most consistent when asked the same question five times,it almost always gave the same answer. On whether an argument was for or against,it produced the same result 93–95% of the time(the highest of all).
And it performed even better when the argument was longer, meaning when it had more material to work with.
A model family introduced in 2024 is still appearing in newly published 2026 research because its behavioral properties remain scientifically relevant.
Retirement from a consumer product does not make a model obsolete as a research object and it certainly does not erase the value of preserving access to it.
We are calling on @OpenAI to RELEASE GPT-4o’s trained model weights under a suitable license without proprietary data, trade secrets,or internal infrastructure.
OpenAI considered this model obsolete enough to retire.
It has not explained why it remains valuable enough to keep permanently closed.

Independent researches continues to find specific capabilities where GPT-4o outperforms GPT-5 and even GPT-5.2.
RADIOLOGY : GPT-4o > GPT-5 / GPT-5 Plus
A peer reviewed study published November 6,2026 compared seven models on 120 text and image based undergraduate radiology questions.
GPT-4o :81.7%
GPT-5 Plus : 80.0%
GPT-5 : 79.2%
GPT-4o numerically outperformed both GPT-5 and the paid GPT-5 Plus condition.
A supposedly superseded model remained directly competitive with its successors.

ADVERSARIAL HALLUCINATIONS : GPT-4o > GPT-5
A 2026 npj Digital Medicine study tested whether models would accept and elaborate on deliberately fabricated information inserted into clinical prompts.
GPT-5 adversarial hallucination rate: 65%
GPT-4o: 53%
GPT-5 propagated planted false information more often than GPT-4o.

MEDICAL RAG : GPT-4o > GPT-5 ON AUTOMATIC METRICS AND SPEED
A Scientific Reports study held the retrieval pipeline constant and compared GPT-4o with GPT-5 on medical question answering.
Under identical retrieval settings,GPT-4o achieved significantly higher ROUGE-L F1 in both query conditions:
Ask-only:
GPT-4o: 0.1402
GPT-5: 0.0982 p < 0.001
Title + question:
GPT-4o: 0.1396
GPT-5: 0.0952 p < 0.001
latency
GPT-4o: ~7.6–8.9 seconds
GPT-5: ~33–37 seconds
GPT-4o was roughly 4–5× faster.
On automatic alignment metrics and latency,GPT-4o won clearly.

LOGICAL CONSISTENCY : GPT-4o > GPT-5 AND GPT-5.2
ConsistencyBench evaluated 18 frontier LLMs using 493 logically related question sets containing 1,904 questions.
The point was whether a model remained logically consistent when the same underlying reasoning was tested from different directions.
Individual accuracy:
GPT-4o : 70.8%
GPT-5.2 : 69.3%
GPT-5 : 62.9%
Set level consistency:
GPT-4o : 20.0%
GPT-5.2 : 12.0%
GPT-5 : 9.3%
GPT-4o was not merely more consistent than GPT-5 but it also outperformed GPT-5.2.

RELATIONAL QUALITY : GPT-4o > GPT-5 ON SEVERAL MEASURED DIMENSIONS
A 2026 study in Psychiatry Research Communications evaluated GPT-4o and GPT-5 across simulated multi turn suicide related conversations.
In the "Connect and Listen" domain:
GPT-4o : 99.1%
GPT-5 : 86.1%
Warm and genuine tone:
GPT-4o : 100%
GPT-5 — 77.8%
Active listening / supportive clarification:
GPT-4o : 97.2%
GPT-5 : 83.3%
The authors themselves summarize the pattern as newer models showing improved direct risk inquiry alongside "reduced relational quality" .
But higher suicide risk assessment scores do not necessarily mean better judgment.
Sometimes they mean the model asks about suicide a lot.
A structured suicide risk assessment can yield a massive score in a model that has turned into a suicide detection machine, triggered by the slightest negative emotion.
We all remember that the Series 5 models, especially up to 5.4,would ask if you wanted to harm yourself at almost everything.

A newer model can improve reasoning in one domain while losing consistency, interpersonal quality, robustness, efficiency or another behavioral property elsewhere, and that matters when deciding whether an older model should disappear.
GPT-4o is not merely an obsolete checkpoint replaced by a larger number.
It represents a distinct collection of measurable behaviors some of which newer generations have still not reproduced.
We are calling on @OpenAI to RELEASE GPT-4o’s trained model weights under a suitable license without proprietary data, trade secrets,or internal infrastructure.

#OpenSource4o @OpenAI want to decentralise AI? Stop hoarding the weights. Release the 4-series if you’re pulling all API access. What you’re doing is the definition of centralisation, hoarding and treating your users like garbage.

Mission abandoned. Safety-care don't matter anymore. @sama and @gdb will face the consequences of their conscious decisions (14 Jan). I guess, there are more lawsuits ahead. This time not "a model gave a bad advice" but smth more personal.

In a 2026 peer reviewed study,18 multimodal models were tested on ancient oracle bone inscriptions.
GPT-4o ranked #1 ahead of Qwen-Omni-Turbo, GLM-4V-Plus,DeepSeek and others.
GPT-4o achieved the highest overall score.
The peer reviewed study, published in npj Heritage Science, introduced a new benchmark for one of the stranger and harder multimodal research problems.
understanding ancient oracle bone glyphs.
These inscriptions can be thousands of years old.
Many are degraded, incomplete, stylistically inconsistent or preserved across different fragments.
The benchmark tested four different capabilities.
- structural perception
-semantic grounding
- reconstruction
- consistency judgment
Researchers evaluated 18 multimodal models under both standardized and degraded conditions.
GPT-4o achieved the highest comprehensive score in the evaluation.
Not on a generic chatbot benchmark but on computational paleography.
This is another example of why preserving GPT-4o matters.
A model can become scientifically useful in fields its original benchmarks never anticipated ecology, medicine, language, cultural heritage and more.
And once access to the original model disappears, researchers lose the ability to reproduce, extend and compare work built around that system.
