AlphaGenome is our latest & most advanced genomics model published in @Nature today including making the model & weights available to academic researchers. Can’t wait to see what the research community will do with it. Congrats to the team on our newest front cover! #AI4Science
Our breakthrough AI model AlphaGenome is helping scientists understand our DNA, predict the molecular impact of genetic changes, and drive new biological discoveries. 🧬 Find out more in @Nature ↓ goo.gle/4bXlV6y

If you are an AI safety researcher, book a flight ticket to Tokyo now and watch the "AI dog in chain" art exhibition. Our pre-training data is evolution and mostly physical intelligence. It's the best way to witness and ponder on the meaning of AI safety.

Biotech is the industry with the lowest success rate unfortunately, but at the same time trying to solve the problems that are worth solving the most.

Think this spontaneous trend should be supported/enhanced by organizers of (bio)hackathons, biotech association, clusters, etc! My most spectacular such experience is with the CEO of a 25 staffers Timisoara cloud services company. He started a biotech research MSc at UCL
I see more and more tech people trying their hand at biotech. This is wonderful. Minor schadenfreude when they hit the first real skill checks, but overall delighted to see fresh interest. It will filter out a lot of disinterested folks real quick tho...

New Night Science Podcast episode! David Baker was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He explains how he socially engineers his lab’s "communal brain", where all individuals function like neurons, densely interconnected to maximize idea generation. nightscience.buzzsprout.com/…

The @iGEM Grand Jamboree doesn't feel like any other scientific conference. It's zany, it's authentic, and most of all, it's FUN I wrote this OpEd piece for @ACSSynBio about what makes iGEM work and why other scientific events need to take notes pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…

30 years. 72 countries. 4485 risk assessments. All concluding the risks from commercialised GE crops do not differ from the risks of comparable non-GE crops. Is that enough safety data to convince you?

Most people misunderstand the Central Dogma. In school, perhaps you were taught it as “DNA → RNA → protein.” But that’s a massive oversimplification. Francis Crick’s real "Central Dogma" was about what *cannot* happen in a cell. Let’s break it down. 🧵
