Five women are reported injured after police tear-gassed them during the ongoing anti-Siang Upper Multipurpose Project bandh across Siang, Upper Siang, and parts of East Siang. People have scaled up protests against the Siang hydropower plans, and so has the brutality by the state police and the CAPF in an attempt to crush the movement.
Worth noting that even as border face off with China continues the govt. has called in heavy deployments from ITBP in Delhi to quash protests.

In the last one month, at least 19 people from Naga and Kuki communities were killed--including nine killed in one day.
However, Manipur didn't issue a single press note on these killings. Today, the police not only issued a statement, but the CM also held a security meet.

Assam carried out a series of eviction in three districts demolishing the homes of more than 1,100 Muslim families living in the unauthorised land for decades.

The police separated Aranya from the other detainees and took her behind a police bus where she alleges they brutally beat her up. “They dragged me out of the bus by pulling my hair and took me behind a bunch of police buses where there were no witnesses. One officer said “now we will teach you a lesson,” she said. She was then thrown to the ground where she was kicked on her stomach, slapped on her face, punched across her torso and choked on her neck, she alleged. Aranya alleges that some of the cops abused her and called her a “ghuspethiya” (slur for immigrants).

Reminder: CEO Uttar Pradesh has not filed FIRs against the people who tried mass deletion of Muslim voters.
But, after we detected them, it did acknowledge. among the 200+ cases, one was a non-existent "Reshma" who attempted mass deletions.
Has also not explained how 80k+people were deleted for no reason or reasons such as "A, B, C" written down.

Still calling the report misleading and called it so in our rebuttal also. The rebuttal is available on our X handle. Some of the figures arrived at in the report are not correct. eg one figure is off by 24%. The deadly mix of preconceived notions, biased approach, faulty assumptions and botched homework always leads to erroneous conclusion. The SIR -2026 conducted in UP is an exercise that we are proud of. It was conducted in a fair and transparent way.

Dharmendra Goswami, a protestor said while in detention the cops remarked that he “must be a Muslim, here as a paid protestor hired for Rupees 500”. “Remove his pants and check if he is Muslim,” one of the cops said, Goswami alleged. Immediately, the student told them his surname and confirmed that he is not a Muslim.

One important thing to understand is that the legal architecture around the right to protest in India remains colonial in its design, and the Supreme Court has been enforcing this colonial architecture since 1960. The Constitution did nothing to change this.
