n 1986 a guy got kicked out of every casino in Vegas for counting cards. So he flew to Hong Kong with $180,000 and started betting on horses instead. He walked away with almost $900 million. It was Bill Benter. He realized horse racing was just another counting problem same math, more moving parts. He and a partner built a computer model that estimated the true odds of each horse. If his numbers showed an edge, he bet. If not, he skipped it. That’s the whole trick: Expected value. EV = p · b − (1 − p) Only bet when the probability of winning × the potential payout is greater than the chance of losing. What’s even crazier is that Benter once gave a 45-minute lecture explaining the math behind his system. That recording was never supposed to become public. And almost nobody knows it exists. This is the lecture that professional bettors and hedge fund analysts studied. The answer is in this video.

Teacher here, with an honest question: has anyone actually reached a real person at @xai support? I use SuperGrok Heavy every day to build learning materials for my students. My account showed a promo price until December, and I have the screenshot. So I cancelled my other AI tools and put everything into this one. Then the promo suddenly disappeared from my account, and now it says it ends this month. No warning, no reason. Support's AI agent told me Google Play sets the price and a teammate would "follow up soon." Google Play told me the promo came from xAI, not them. That was 6 days ago. My follow-up ticket was closed as a duplicate within 2 minutes, and I've heard nothing since. I'm just a teacher on a tight budget trying to make good stuff for kids. If you've found a way to reach a human there, or been through the same thing, I'd really appreciate any advice.

Researchers spent 500 hours and $70,000 and found LG TVs logging plain text transcripts in standby, mapping every device in the house, and feeding it to LG's ad arm Unplug the internet and it saves the files until you plug back in. LG says its TVs don't record ambient conversations. The evidence begs to differ. 216 million of these are sitting in living rooms. Where are the regulators? Writer: Daniel

whoever leaked this has bigger balls than sense someone at Anthropic hired 80 AI helpers onto one project, gave them twelve hours, and counted what came back usable: the two older models handed in 980 and 876 finished pieces of work, and almost none of it could be kept turns out the newest helpers did better for a reason nobody wants to hear: they went off into their own corners and stopped opening each other's work i ran two helpers at one document last week and got two confident versions of it, and i kept the one i wrote myself Grok Bot is the version of this you can actually hire: a helper with a name, one job it owns, and nobody else allowed inside that job you already pay about $20 a month for one chat window, and the setup that won in that report is one helper with one job it owns run it tonight in a normal chat, 3 moves: 1. write the one job each helper owns in a single sentence before you open a second chat 2. keep every helper in its own chat with one document, so two of them can never rewrite the same thing 3. add a third only when you can say what it owns without repeating a job that is already taken save this, then open the piece below: what one hired helper is really worth, and the point where the next one starts taking it back ↓

i finally understand why the people who got everything they wanted are the ones who sound the emptiest. nobody i know would call it that, but everybody i know has it. viktor frankl was a psychiatrist in vienna. he survived four camps. this interview is from 1979, and the interviewer opens by naming the most common illness of our time: meaninglessness. frankl says a society built to satisfy people will meet every single need a person has, except one. then comes the part i was not ready for. inside the camps, where everything was taken, people's symptoms disappeared. out here, where nothing is taken, something new showed up instead. he had already named it thirty years before this interview was filmed. he says the ones most likely to survive were not the strongest. if the thing you are chasing arrived tomorrow morning, what would you do with the day after it? the full twenty one minute interview is in the video below.

An MIT professor offered his students a simple bet: Heads: you win $125. Tails: you lose $100. Mathematically, it’s a steal. On average, you come out +$12.50 ahead each time you play. It’s what economists call "better than fair." Most of the class said no. They weren't stupid. They were human. The professor took it a step further. He told them: "I’m going to force you to take this bet... unless you pay me to get out of it." How much were they willing to pay? $43. Almost half their money... to escape a bet that was in their favor. That isn't weakness. It’s called risk aversion. And it’s exactly the reason why insurance, extended warranties, and almost all the "safe" financial decisions we make exist. You aren't being irrational when you turn down a good bet. You are putting a price on the fear of losing. In this MIT class, you learn how expected utility really works. Why risk aversion isn't a flaw, but a human trait. And how that explains almost every economic decision we make on a daily basis. Save this for later 🔖
