Bitcoin held on an exchange is not Bitcoin you control. It’s a Bitcoin IOU.
Crypto is not the same as Bitcoin. Many tokens are programmable assets issued or controlled by centralised foundations and companies.
Stablecoins are not Bitcoin. They can be frozen for good or bad reasons.
Large crypto exchanges are not FDIC-insured banks. Their crypto balances are not protected by FDIC deposit insurance.
Binance created its own insurance-style emergency fund, SAFU, because it cannot rely on being too big to fail.
Banks, on the other hand, can become too big to fail, socialising losses while privatising gains.
Self-custody comes with different risks.
Social engineering tricks you into taking an action that compromises your keys.
Compromised devices, malicious software and insecure seed phrase generation can expose your Bitcoin without you realising it.
Wrench attacks introduce another risk: physical violence or coercion to force you to surrender your keys.
Self-custody removes counterparty risk, but makes you responsible for managing your own security.

The Binance hacker might have just pulled off one of the smartest moves I’ve seen in crypto.
First, Tether froze $1.5 billion in USDT.
Then Circle froze another $800 million in USDC.
At that point, it looked like the hacker’s money was trapped.
But apparently, he had already planned for that.
Instead of holding the stolen USDT in a wallet, he allegedly deposited it into Aave and used it as collateral to borrow ETH.
Then he walked away.
That’s where the story gets crazy.
Tether can freeze the USDT sitting in the wallet.
But it can’t freeze the ETH he already borrowed.
So now Aave is left holding frozen collateral, while the hacker is sitting on liquid ETH.
And unless the protocol can recover it somehow, he may not even need to pay the loan back.
Two companies froze billions of dollars in seconds.
But someone who understood how to use DeFi may have found a way around both of them.

No, I don't think so. Largely abandoned as de rigueur for anyone entering post ETFs, but still very much the ethos of anyone who got in in the 2010's.

Bitcoin has to get moving here.
In any solid uptrend, three red weekly candles typically is a short reset and a quick continuation of the trend resumes. We need to see that quickly imo.
Bitcoin appears to be confirming the new cycle here. These events provide a really clear and clean setup.
The upside target is around 30 to 45 days, room for a good advance. It is however not guarantee of a major upside move, but provides an excellent anchoring point because a loss of the recent lows ($79,600) is a level where you would want to get very defensive.
