Earlier in February this year I made a model book based on @Qullamaggie 's Swing School series on Youtube. Basically all the examples he referred to in the series. Includes quotes of his that resonated with me, all in one document. Not perfect, but inspired by @mwebster1971 I want to share this if it's of use to anyone. I will be printing this out and writing more notes on the charts. Open to feedback! drive.google.com/file/d/1VEE…

Several centuries ago the Pope decreed that all the Jews had to convert to Catholicism or leave Italy. There was a huge outcry from the Jewish community so the Pope offered a deal. He would hold a religious debate with the leader of the Jewish community. If the Jews won, they could stay in Italy. If the Pope won, they'd have to convert or leave. The Jewish people met and picked an aged and wise rabbi to represent them in the debate.
However, as the rabbi spoke no Italian and the Pope spoke no Yiddish, both sides agreed that it would be a "silent" debate. On the chosen day the Pope and rabbi sat opposite each other.
The Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. The rabbi looked back and raised one finger and shook it at the Pope. Next the Pope waved his finger around his head. The rabbi pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope brought out a communion wafer and a chalice of wine. The rabbi pulled out an apple. With that, the Pope stood up and declared himself beaten and said that the rabbi was too clever. The Jews could stay in Italy. Later the cardinals met with the Pope and asked him what had happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up a single finger, shaking it to remind me there is still only one God common to both our beliefs.” "Then, I waved my finger around my head to show him that God is all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground to show that God is also right here with us.” "I pulled out the wine and wafer to show that God absolves us of all our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of the original sin.” "He beat me at every move and I could not continue." Meanwhile, the Jewish community gathered to ask the rabbi how he'd won. "I haven't a clue," the rabbi said. "First, he told me that we had three days to get out of Italy so I shook my finger saying no.” "Then he tells me that the whole country would be cleared of Jews and I told him that we were staying right here." "And then what?" asked a woman. "Who knows?" said the rabbi. "He took out his lunch so I took out mine."

This is maybe the most thorough and honest diagnosis of an election defeat that we’ve ever seen from a politician at Vance’s level. And he’s right.
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

BOMBSHELL Fossil Fuels Did NOT Cause the CO2 Rise. New peer-reviewed paper just dropped. 500 years of data. The verdict is in. Fossil carbon's contribution to rising CO2: effectively ZERO. The entire IPCC/NASA/NOAA/EPA climate narrative rests on a claim that just got mathematically falsified. Read it. Share it. The cover-up is over. I am a real meteorologist, numb nuts. This is publicly verifiable information. Don't believe me? Give the link below a little click. 🔗millersville.edu/egem/degree… Let's now address your three points one by one. 1️⃣ “It establishes a natural equilibrium” The “pre-industrial” atmosphere was not in a magical state of climatic equilibrium. Earth's climate has never been static, and neither have atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentrations. During the last glacial maximum, CO₂ concentrations were ~180 parts per million by volume (ppmv). During previous interglacial cycles it was closer to 280 ppm. Over much longer timescales, CO₂ concentrations have been substantially higher; we're talking several thousand ppm in parts of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic periods when life flourished. 🔗ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg1/downl… (pp. 298–301; Table 2.1) Although CO₂ concentrations have remained within a ~10–20 ppm range throughout most of the current interglacial cycle, temperatures most certainly haven't in the slightest. The Holocene has featured substantial multidecadal and centennial temperature swings under that fairly stable CO₂ backdrop. For instance, the Holocene Thermal Maximum (~9,000–5,000 years ago), the Medieval Warm Period (~900–1300 AD), and the Little Ice Age (~1300–1850 AD), among other rapid climate change intervals documented in multi-proxy compilations (e.g., Mayewski et al., 2004; pp. 243–245, 251–252). 🔗sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Regional reconstructions and historical records show the Medieval Warm Period was warm enough in many regions to support expanded agriculture and human settlement in higher latitudes, while the Little Ice Age brought glacier advances, crop failures and famine, and colder conditions across much of the Northern Hemisphere all the while atmospheric CO₂ levels were fairly stable in the 270–290 ppm range. There have been several attempts to either minimize or erase Holocene climate variability (e.g., Mann et al., 1998, 1999; Kaufman et al., 2009; and PAGES2K). These graphs are often called “hockey sticks” due to the relatively stable global / Northern Hemispheric mean temperature shown over the last 2,000 years, and unprecedented spike in the 20th century. McIntyre & McKitrick (2005), however, were able to demonstrate that MBH (1998, 1999)'s unconventional data-centering procedure preferentially weighted tree ring proxies exhibiting hockey stick-shaped patterns higher (primarily high-elevation bristlecone and foxtail pine). Through Monte Carlo simulations, M&M (2005) found that MBH's methodology produced hockey-stick-shaped first principal components in more than 99% of simulations using persistent, trendless red noise. In layman terms, the statistical procedure MBH used could generate the characteristic hockey stick-shape even when the proxy data contained no actual temperature trend when averaged correctly. Furthermore, just 15 bristlecone and foxtail pine sites accounted for ~93% of the variance in the critical North American first principal component. When the conventional principal component analysis (PCA) centering was applied to the same proxy network, the resulting first principal component no longer exhibited the same pronounced hockey-stick shape. This is shown in Fig. 3 from M&M (2005) below. 🔗agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.… Subsequent reconstructions, including PAGES2K and Kaufman et al. (2009), have also faced methodological criticism from McIntyre. They screen proxies based on correlation with the relatively short modern instrumental period (which select proxies that track the recent increase in temperatures since 1850) and use careful methodological choices that dampen pre-industrial climate variability while emphasizing modern global warming. 🔗threadreaderapp.com/thread/1… 🔗climateaudit.org/2009/09/03/… 🔗climateaudit.org/2014/10/31/… Regardless, the fact that human civilization happened to develop during a period when CO₂ concentrations were ~280 ppm does not establish that 280 ppm is the optimum concentration for natural ecosystems, agriculture, or human prosperity. So, Britbong, I'll ask again, what CO₂ concentration represents the Earth's “natural equilibrium,” and by what objective criterion? 2️⃣ “It isolates anthropogenic impact” No, it doesn't. Not by itself. Comparing today's atmospheric CO₂ concentrations with those reconstructed before industrialization tells us how much concentrations have changed over time. It does not, by itself, establish the climatic response to that change, much less whether those changes will be predominantly beneficial or harmful. We have independent evidence, including carbon isotopic measurements, to prove that mankind's fossil fuel combustion is primarily responsible for the increase in atmospheric CO₂ concentrations since the mid-19th century. I don't dispute that and never have. However, quantifying the anthropogenic contribution to the increase in CO₂ is not the same as quantifying the resulting temperature response and other climate-related changes. Those remain separate scientific questions. Strike two. 3️⃣ “It calculates radiative forcing” Once again, no it doesn't, and this right here is where your argument really falls apart. The approximate radiative forcing (RF) from a change in CO₂ concentration is given by: ΔF ≈ 5.35 ln(C/C₀) W m⁻² where C is the new concentration and C₀ is the reference concentration (see Myhre et al., 1998). 🔗agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.… Notice something, Sparky? There is absolutely nothing in that equation requiring C₀ to be 280 ppm. You can calculate the forcing from 280 to 427 ppm, 350 to 427 ppm, or 427 to 854 ppm. The physics don't change depending on which reference concentration you choose. Using the 280-ppm baseline gives us ~2.26 W m⁻² of additional CO₂ RF relative to that concentration. But that calculation does not in any way establish that 280 ppm is the optimal concentration, much less that the additional CO₂ is dangerous, or that returning to 280 ppm would produce a preferable climatic state. Strike three. Wanna rethink some things? Kenny Powers says you're effing out!
Replying to @ChrisMartzWX
There are 3 reasons for using 'pre-industrial' as a baseline. 1. It establishes a Natural Equilibrium: The pre-industrial baseline represents a multi-millennial period of stable greenhouse gas levels (~280 parts per million) that allowed modern human civilisation, agriculture, and coastal cities to develop. 2. It isolates Anthropogenic Impact: Comparing current levels to this baseline allows scientists to separate natural climate variations from human-induced changes driven by fossil fuel combustion and land-use changes. 3. It calculates Radiative Forcing: In climate physics, the warming effect (radiative forcing) of a greenhouse gas is calculated mathematically using its deviation from a natural background state, making the pre-industrial era the most scientifically sound reference point. If you were a meteorologist, you would know this.
