Even as far as today, the far-left in Europe is still considered much harmless compared to the far-right. Angela Merkel herself has recently said that a coalition with Die Linke would be acceptable but not a coalition with AFD. Times have changed and it is time to change this perspective. There was a time when the far-left in Europe was genuinely harmless because it believed in rule-of-law and there was even a time when the far-left in Europe was liberal and pro-NATO (Berlinguer). Today, the far-left stands to undermine our democratic institutions, to appease totalitarian dictatorships like Russia and China, and allow Russia to invade European countries while leaving our democracies and borders defenceless. As Russia tries to undermine our democracies with subversion and propaganda, the far-left in Europe is only aiding and boosting the far-right by participating in the same subversion and propaganda that Russia is promoting. It's time to change political mentalities in Europe and start classifying the far-left as an equivalent to fascism and the far-right and this is how we acknowledge the danger of the politics they are espousing.
