❗️ LINE's end-to-end encryption lets a malicious server silently replay, reorder or block messages, Aarhus University researchers say. Colluding users can forge who sent a message, and stickers leak plaintext. LINE's owner said last year that "no special action is required."

I asked Google CEO Pichai what happened to the missing Gemini 3.5 Pro model that never shipped. He gave me an interesting window into the hard decisions big labs have to make in model development: "While training the 3.5 series, we had Flash and Pro, which we were working on. An area we internalized through the middle of this year was that there were gaps in agentic capabilities, particularly around coding... We wanted to definitely hill climb there, and the team felt the fastest way to do so was using Flash. It's a smaller model and more efficient, so you can really get a lot more iterative loops there. That's what led to 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8 Flash. By the time we got that done, we had a chance to apply it to Pro, but Argon pre-training was done."
Sundar Pichai on Gemini 4 and the AI compute crunch Even Google can’t get enough compute. I sit down with Google and Alphabet CEO @sundarpichai shortly after the wider release of Gemini 4 Argon to discuss its early reception, where he still wants the model to improve, and what it takes to keep Google at the frontier of AI. Pichai explains the recent leadership shakeup at Google DeepMind and why building frontier models has become an “all-consuming” job. We also get into Google’s answer to the personal agent race, how he predicts Gemini will do more work on your behalf, and whether agents will finally bring Search, Gmail, and Gemini together. I ask him about Google turning free cash flow negative, the risks in the AI infrastructure buildout, and how he plans for demand years before knowing what the models will be capable of. He explains the signals giving him confidence to keep spending and how he uses AI agents to follow model development and compute usage inside Google. Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

How on earth did this happen: The Indian certificate authority (CA) eMudhra had one job (well, two): 1. Create secure, 384-bit private keys 2. Store these securely and do not leak them Well, eMudhra chose private keys between 1 and 256 (the numbers!!) and called it a day. WTF
I don't really understand why this would happen. It seems higher-effort than standard key generation.

🇰🇵 Amid rumors that Kim Jong Un had fallen into a coma, North Korea’s KCNA published photos of him “inspecting a clothing and footwear exhibition site” with his wife Ri Sol-ju and daughter Kim Ju-ae, presented as "proof of life". The images appeared the day after British tabloid The Sun, citing unverified rumors, claimed he had suffered a brain hemorrhage, slipped into a coma, and been taken to China for treatment. There is no independent confirmation of when the photos were taken. Kim was last seen on October 11 inspecting a defense museum in Pyongyang. North Korean authorities have not commented on the health rumors.

Amused that AWS just unilaterally cancelled Cloudflare's Reinvent booth. There are always signs when someone finally realizes they're losing. Guess we'll just attend and throw the most fun side events without paying Amazon! Reply if you want an invite.

Tesla VP of Hardware Engineering Lars Moravy explains to Hagerty how the Roadster borrows SpaceX cold gas thrusters to make 0 to 60 possible in 0.55 seconds. Truly insane: ▫️ 200L carbon-over wrapped pressure vessel behind seat holds nitrogen at 10,000 PSI ▫️cold gas thrusters push out 80 kN of thrust (equivalent to a single fighter jet engine) ▫️Tesla went with nitrogen because “it just seemed wrong to put fuel into a car” (air is ~80% nitrogen, fair enough) ▫️thrusters same system satellites use to move in space (eg. the “psh psh psh" from Apollo 13 film) ▫️currently takes 6 to 7 hours to refill all nitrogen but Tesla working for it to be 30 minutes ▫️uses leg actuators from Optimus robot to manage downforce on wing *** Full 25-min episode with Henry Catchpole here: youtu.be/22rvpUecLts?si=jtwK…

SpaceX has used thrusters to position spacecraft for decades. Making them work in a vehicle instead of a vacuum took all-new hardware & controls. Every usable void in the car is packed with Carbon Fiber Overwrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs) More compressed gas on board = more flight time
