Jared Goff continues his MVP campaign as the addition of Drew Petzing has only sharpened this offense and has made them even more playoff ready. The utilization of Sam LaPorta is still concerning despite his act of whole hearted devotion to the teams successful. Amon Ra St Brown's target seperation in this game was at the highest all season, as Brandon Cisse/Carrington Valentine simply couldn't hold upΒ in any coverage schemes.Β
Jared Goff is currently at 14 TDs, 0 INTs, leads the league in pass yards per game, and has the 8th lowest yards per sack allowed despite being in 150 drop backs (51.1% success rate in drop backs ranking 4th among qualifying QBs). The play action rate stands at 30.5% and he's added a +0.26 EPA per drop back. Jameson Williams has been his go to zone beater this season rather then just a pure deep threat, he sliced through Jonathan Gannon's soft zone defense.Β
The Detroit Lions offense rush the ball so effectively and Drew Petzing's scheme has tailored to Jahmyr Gibbs strengths, which is vision and breaking tackles. The wide zone & split zone run foundation has a accommodated to Gibbs' ability to make people miss in between the tackles. Green Bay being down for the count with no Edgerrin Cooper being the best run stopper made this an easier matchup advantage for Detroits offense.
Jordan Love played a good game and was making high leverage reads on deep shots including 3rd down situations. Matthew Golden & Christian Watson were a non factor seperating and creating plays down the field. Brian Branch's return was huge for Detroit's' secondary, he made a huge interception on one of Green Bay's most effective drives. Keith Abney made some big tackles on Tucker Kraft as well.
Shout out Evan Williams & Xavier McKinney, ultimately being the two players who didn't let Jameson Williams score on every reception in the deep middle of the field. They combined for 7 tackles and ultimately only allowed 1 reception when targeted down field. The addition of Micah Parsons will force more out of structure situations for offenses. However, at the moment every time is able to get comfortable pocket play all game.
KC 3 - SEA 20
Sam Darnold & Brian Fleury's offense add a bit more of a spark with more 12 personnel looks + utilization of AJ Barner. Emmanuel Wilson was rushing the ball efficiently which led to a 20% PA rate, not the highest rate for a team rushing the ball effectively due to the offense dominating 3rd down being 11/16 + controlling time of posession.Β
However, Jaxon Smith Njigba is the story for every game when it comes to this offense. He's consistently always the most valuable player on the field. You can shade, run off coverage, have safety help at the top of the hashes, it simply does not matter, he beats every zone and every coverage concept, he is the best wide receiver in the world. He had 150 yards, with 40.7% of those catches being tightly contested. He is one of one.
The run defense led by Ernest Jones IV, Byron Murphy II and DeMarcus Lawrence made life hell for the former star RB Kenneth Walker. Who swiftly became a non factor when the gap scheme rushes for Andy Reid were run stuffed at a high rate. The gap integrity from this Seahawks interior D Line is one of the few entities that make this unit a force to be reckon with.Β
Seattle's defense only logged 1 sack but completely gave Patrick Mahomes and this offense little to no chance to move the ball, unless it was bootleg TE concepts or slip screens/mis directions. Patrick Mahomes was pressured at a 53% rate, which is the 5th highest in his career. The offense was only capable of stretching the field vertically with the team missing Rashee Rice. Even with his presence this team still struggles to stretch the field vertically. Hindering Patrick Mahomes tremendously.Β
Patrick Mahomes being pressured at a 53% rate isn't the jarring part, he was down both his tackles, it was bound to happen that he'd have to make a boat load of out of structure plays. It was the fact 38.9% of his drop backs were pressured which was an abhorrent amount. The offense simply has no other recourse if Mahomes can't even successfully make his first read on first down. Just pure domination from Mike MacDonald and co.
