Time to get active on social media again - it’s officially #rightwhale calving season!! Congrats to mom “Juno”!
🐋 – at Saint John, New Brunswick
Spotted 👀 First newborn North Atlantic right whale of the year has been born! Catalog #1612 ‘Juno’ is the first right whale seen with a newborn calf (who is no more than four days old!) this winter. These whales are critically endangered so new calves are crucial to recovery.
BIG news, whale lovers...#GivingTuesday is almost here and we’re highlighting some of our conservation work with @nature_org

We were pleased to have been part of the research team that provided drone footage for this documentary. It is a difficult, but touching, story to watch.
This should be a great workshop!

This week, using specialized remote tools, our team and @MyFWC safely disentangled a dolphin calf in the Banana River that was first reported by a local eco-tour group. The gear was 7 ft long and consisted of over 20 strands of red braided fishing line, a sinker, and hook.
Blue World Research Institute retweeted
The entanglement caused significant wounds to the calf’s flukes, illustrating the dangers of fishing line to wildlife. In fact, entanglement in fishing gear is a leading cause of death for dolphins in the Banana River. Calves are especially at risk due to their curious nature.

We will continue to monitor the calf ("Baldwin") to be sure no gear remains. We're so thankful to our partners & members of the community who supported these efforts: Wildside Tours, Cocoa Beach Dolphin Tours, @MyFWC @NOAAFisheriesSE @SeaWorld @HarborBranch @BluWrldResearch
We enjoyed seeing everyone and sharing our knowledge! Hopefully we can find solutions to preventing entanglements from ever occurring, but until then we do the best we can to help each individual.
Yesterday we hosted a disentanglement workshop! Thank you, Jamie,@BluWrldResearch for leading & sharing expertise! Together we can develop strategies to address this growing risk to whales & dolphins.@NOAAFish_SERO @MyFWC @CountyofVolusia @HarborBranch @dolphinsarasota @UFVetMed
