Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away at 86.
What many fans may not know: in 2012, he came to Israel to star in "Hunting Elephants," an Israeli comedy shot in Jerusalem, alongside Israeli screen legends Sasson Gabai and Moni Moshonov. He had first visited a year earlier and said he told his family and friends he wanted to come back - this time not as a tourist, but as part of an Israeli film.
As he wrapped up his stay, he wrote: "I will miss Israel - the place, the people, the food."
The film went on to open the 2013 Jerusalem Film Festival, where the director had the crowd send him a message: "We love you, Patrick!"
He also supported the American Jewish World Service.
Thank you, Sir Patrick, for the stories, the dignity, and the warmth you shared with Israel and the world. The people of Israel will miss you too.

Sharona Shmunis Harel — a Jewish Israeli mother of two — children when Hamas murdered me at the Nova festival.
Her brother-in-law told ABC 7 News that she was burned so badly he could not recognize her dead body.
"Since the body was unrecognizable, you cannot watch it even. You cannot see anything because it was bombed, so we know it is my sister-in-law," said Ohad.
"My sister-in-law went for a festival, and they massacred the people... And don't forget, she's not representing an army or Israel, she was a civilian."

When Hamas invaded, she knew she had no chance. She was unarmed. Unprepared, and asleep.
Once she awoke, she wrote a note "if I die in battle, may the EMTs arrive in full uniform."
Sadly, Yarin didn't make it home. She loved her friends, family and making TikToks. She was only 20. This was the last video she ever uploaded.
