Now we're talkin! Getting some solid FPS numbers, also added FSR+DLSS+Framegen(gross)+low latency. Just noting those numbers stay high even without frame gen on and without FSR. There is some unavoidable blurriness -- we're upscaling from a 720p base to 4k here, but otherwise it's running pretty damn good. Again, this is NOT using xenia gpu translation. it is a custom backend derived from the sonic unleashed recomp port:

This is something that is important to note in all the new "recompiled" games coming out. Many of them, as noted here, are still using emulated, translated graphics backends, and are not in fact a full decompile/recompile. It's like if a game company released a "native" linux build using WINE as a wrapper (a-la witcher 2). Sure, they are more convenient than setting up an emulator, but under the hood they are still emulating the graphics instead of natively rendering them. I say this because I understand the work that goes into actually decompile/recompiling/building your own graphics backend instead of using an emulator to translate it. Sure, I also promote using AI as an effective tool for working on this, but I think if decompiles/recompiles are going to be made, they need to be full, legitimate decompiles, not using translation layers, as that's where you can really crank out performance gains and other features and optimizations. I've been working on my gears of war 3 recompile for what seems like weeks if not months now simply because I am doing a full graphics backend recompile, NOT using xenia's xb360 graphics translator, and even I didn't start that from scratch, I used the SonicDE decompiled gpu backend as a base: xitter.cf/GloriousEggroll/statusโ€ฆ Even now I'm still trying to fix a few fps drops during combat, but otherwise the framerate has massively improved due to putting in the time to try to fix it via decompiled/recompiled code, rather than just relying on xenia's translator and calling it a day. This is the current WIP result I have, which is more than playable but still needs some fixing on those drops. Mind you it's also upscaled to 4k, no FSR:

We're sold out of Batch 2 of the 192GB Framework Desktop, and are waiting until we have confirmed shipments and pricing on additional memory before we open additional Batches. The 128GB config is still in stock though!
Batch one is nearly sold out, but we got confirmation of an additional shipment of memory from our supplier, so we're going to be opening up a second limited batch of pre-orders at the same pricing. Batches beyond that will depend on both CPU and memory supply and pricing.

This morning it finally came home to me. I will probably never write another program in C again. Which is a big deal. I've been writing C since 1983. 43 years is a long time and a lot of skill investment. It's not like I didn't see this coming. I've been writing about the decline of C for years, predicting that it would be displaced by newer systems languages with better safety guarantees and more coherent designs. It wasn't better language design alone that did it, though. It's how good LLMs now are at generating code from specs and prompts. This means I can speak a program into existence in Rust or Go without any more effort than would be required to conjure it up in C. What makes this particularly dramatic is that I never learned to hand-code in Rust. And now - I don't need to. What a long, strange trip it's been.

New Cosmic 1.9.0 is now in the CachyOS repository including the two new application. cosmic-osk (On Screen Keyboard) and cosmic-viewer are now available also. for existing installation you can install it with sudo pacman -S cosmic-viewer cosmic-osk.
COSMIC now has an on-screen keyboard. It can be activated from the login screen or with an applet you can add to your panel. Settings are under Accessibility > On-screen keyboard. It works great on touchscreen devices and game controllers. We're also working on improving the touchscreen experience throughout COSMIC.
