After a long summer break I'm slowly getting used to the bench again. Half a dozen unfinished projects are waiting. 😅 Best way for me to build up mojo again is painting my favorite @Airfix figures sets with @thearmypainter colors. These Desert Rats are from the original mould.
Impressive in live action as well, as this newsreel is proving youtube.com/watch?v=mix3w9lb…
Weathering next. Looking forward to bring out some of the detail work. 😅
70 years old Skysweeper kit built mostly out of the box. The scale is around 1/33. As much as the 88 mm Flak has been Tamyia's signature kit for decades this impressive piece could have been a landmark in early American kit production but too bad it's hardly seen anywhere.
The longer I'm dealing with this oldie the more I like it. 😁
It has been fun to apply a 'modern' camo scheme to such an old kit like Renwal's Skysweeper 😅Dull Olive Drab would have been the historically correct choice of course but this seemed boring. I'm actually quite pleased with the over all look of it now. 😁
Give honor where it's due! 😅
Basic construction is finished, except from some cables and the hand rails I'll add before priming. Over all good fit, decent detail, but heavy thick plastic. Remember this kit was first released in 1955 but does indeed honor to the real thing and is quite fun to assemble. 👍
Building the old Renwal Skysweeper kit: as said before this is an OOTB project. But the missing automatic ammo loader cage is so defining that I was forced to reconstruct it from scratch. 😅
Actually I'm surprised by the swift construction progress and the over all good fit part. Only a few corrections necessary with Evergreen plastic strips and rods.
Glorious what-if, and what a brilliant finish with all the extras! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finished🤗
1/35 Afrikakorps anti-tank truck, purely fictional. Tamiya Opel Blitz and Pak 38.

Detail is very heavy of course ...
Building the Renwal Skysweeper kit from 1955: Actually I want this to be a out of the box built but the muzzle brake is so horrible I simply have to do it myself. There are no pics showing the Skysweeper with a muzzle brake so I'm inventing one in the Gepard/Oerlikon style.
Well, this is the look inside of this antiquity, no bags, many loose parts but none or only a few seem to be missing. The instructions are gorgeous too, describing each step in depth. There even was a computer back then! 😅
And now to something truly different. Building a kit that is (way...) older than myself 😂According to Scalemates Renwal released the Skysweeper in 1955. I recently found this beauty at a garage sale and got it cheap. Collectors might be upset building it but I don't care. 😅
