If you had told me when I was in high school in the 1990s that someday the lead singer of Jars of Clay would say “I’m no longer sure who God is” and the lead singer of Smashing Pumpkins would say “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior” I would have spit out my Slim Fast and stained my flannel shirt
Well said. I’ve known many intelligent people who struggling with addiction or in recovery.
Intelligent people struggle with addiction. Their minds need more. More depth. More to disappear into. They have obsessions nobody around them shares. Philosophy. Literature. Astronomy. Documentaries. Quantum physics. Dostoevsky. Kant. Books, music, films, ideas they've gone so deep into that ordinary conversation starts to feel like small talk. And small talk feels like suffocation. So... they drink. Work until 2 am. Doomscroll until they feel nothing. Because there is a gap between who you are and the conversations available to you. And sometimes, that gap becomes unbearable. And it's one of the loneliest places a person can live.
A list of my favorite Western movie villains.
Curly Bill (Hackman), Unforgiven.
El Indio (Gian Maria Volonté), For a Few Dollars More.
Ned Pepper (Duvall), True Grit.
Long Hair (Bruce Dern), The Cowboys. (The greatest of all)
Rev. Rudd (Mitchum), Five Card Stud.
I would ask her about which side of the Georgia wrestling promotional feud from the 70s she was on.
And then I would explain my theory that had Ray Gunkel not died, the outcome would have been different. I think I would also ask her for her take on the conspiracy theory that Bruno Sammartino beat a Buddy Rogers lookalike for the WWWF title in 1963.
Hey @grok, create an image of my ideal spouse based on my tweets.
Got to return to some mic commentary for an independent pro wrestling show tonight.
I missed this so much.
