THIS ONE! A visceral Southern debut as otherworldly & beautiful as it is unflinching & wry, THE SONG OF THE BLUE BOTTLE TREE by India Hayford (3/25/25) absolutely has my heart. A gazillion thanks to those of you who provided such gorgeous blurbs! bit.ly/3Z9Onff #ewgc

Diane McPhail vividly reimagines Lydia Latrobe Roosevelt’s wild adventure of 1811, when – very pregnant & with a toddler in tow – she braved violent earthquakes, hostile attacks & more on the first steamboat voyage to conquer the Mississippi River. tinyurl.com/m2b35r49 #EWGC

I second @VNesting (always)! This charmingly folksy, beautifully written novel is a great read...and surprisingly funny! I definitely didn't expect to find so much wry humor in THE FLOWER SISTERS (4/23/24). t.ly/BSBeL #ewgc

I just started this but am already OBSESSED. A female doctor joins a traveling medicine show to support her disabled son (with Down syndrome), only to get caught in the devastation of the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900. on edelweiss now! #ewgc tinyurl.com/j5ztc4c8

Hullo #ewgc! I’ve gushed enough about WHEN THE JESSAMINE GROWS (1/23/24), but now only 28 days of LibraryReads noms remain! A provocative, beautifully handled Civil War-era novel about a woman’s fight far from any battlefront. Plus cute swag! bit.ly/eARCJessamine

Anyone game for a quick opinion poll? I'm trying to choose the most compelling short excerpt from a forthcoming novel and can't decide between these. Would love to hear which one you like the most!

I adored BONFIRE NIGHT (12/26/23), about an Irish Catholic photographer & a Jewish medical student confronting love in its many forms – measuring them against one another & testing the limits of each. "Heartrending." - Natalie Jenner bit.ly/3Jf0LSv #ewgc

ARCs are here at last! @vnesting calls Donna Everhart’s WHEN THE JESSAMINE GROWS (1/23/24) a “powerful & empathetic portrait of what it takes to be true to one’s values in the face of overwhelming pressure.” I call it straight up captivating! bit.ly/eARCJessamine #ewgc

For fans of Megan Abbott & “Dance Moms!” Tammy Greenwood’s THE STILL POINT unleashes a tempest of female friendship, maternal ambition, suburban drama, & the sacrifices demanded by art within the hyper cutthroat world of ballet girls and their moms. bit.ly/3YocWmi #ewgc

Set in 19th century NC, Donna Everhart’s WHEN THE JESSAMINE GROWS is a captivating story about integrity, survival, family & finding the grace to believe in a better future. Just placed a HUGE order of ARCs featuring these rockstar blurbs too! bit.ly/43j4w06 #ewgc

Oh yeah and I still have some of the fancy schmancy vip boxes for THE WOMAN IN THE CASTELLO if anyone’s also on bookstagram or booktok! Hit me up at VEngstrand (at) kensingtonbooks dot com! #ewgc
THE WOMAN IN THE CASTELLO by Kelsey James gave me grown-up Nancy Drew vibes and I loved that! An actress senses something sinister afoot while filming in her estranged aunt's crumbling Italian castle. #ewgc

This beauty! Amid the rise of fascism in 1936 England, a Catholic photographer & a Jewish medical student confront love in its many forms (familial, patriotic, romantic, etc) measuring them against one another & testing the limits of each. #ewgc bit.ly/3Jf0LSv

From Weimar Republic Germany, through WWII Amsterdam & the rise of the Berlin Wall, V.S. Alexander’s THE NOVELIST FROM BERLIN (Oct 2023) is inspired by the very mysterious real life of writer Irmgard Keun (a literary cold case if you ask me).So good! bit.ly/3GjhAtF #ewgc

I love this book so, so much and hope everyone reads it. The perfect late summer read when the suns has started to set a little earlier, and you want to curl up with a part mystery, ghost story, and family drama. Print ARCs will be in around the time of the next #EWGC.
