The entire point of crypto is sovereignty. That is why it exists. And a financial system is only sovereign if it is permissionless and immutable. "And yet, any money is useless without the ability to trade it. This is why exchange, too, must become immutable. Without immutable exchange, Bitcoin’s promise will forever be handicapped." - Erik Voorhees Permissionless money needs a permissionless market. Currently there are precisely two permissionless cross-chain exchanges: @THORChain and @Maya_Protocol (currently offline). And yet despite permissionlessness being the sole raison d'etre of crypto, like clockwork TC is attacked for dutifully providing it. If you don’t believe in permissionless finance, why are you in crypto? So to all those criticizing THORChain, I ask you, is the existence of a permissionless cross-chain exchange desirable?

I remember sitting around a campfire shortly after the Ukraine war had just started with some Ukrainian friends. They shared that after they learned that Russian forces were jamming all communications they called Elon begging for Starlink support. Elon and the Starlink team instantly dropped everything they were working on, loaded a private jet with as many Starlink terminals as they could (terminals were in short supply at the time), and started flying the jet eastward while writing code to make terminals work over Ukraine. There was no contract or promise of payment for doing so, and no time to solve for that. My Ukrainian friends believed this saved the nation of Ukraine, and that without this effort Ukraine would have lost the war nearly instantly.

The post below is from the Democratic mayor of a lefty New Hampshire town. When immigrants are right-wing and White, all of the sudden Democrats sound like blood-and-soil nativists.
1/ This is the core reason Dems want to flood NH (and the entire US) with foreigners: foreigners vote for big government, high regulations, high taxes, and redistribution (i.e. the Dem platform).

🚨 THE US GOVERNMENT IS USING MONERO $XMR !!!
The US GOV uses Tor. The Feds literally paid a spy $100k in Monero. They don't hate Monero. They don't hate Tor. They just hate that you have access to them. To hell with them all.

I was Director of Engineering at AMEX a year ago. They are doing this so that they can rehire in India. The inside story is MUCH WORSE than that though. Amex has been doing silent layoffs for years. As director, the VP told me to gradually increase expectations on engineers so that we could fire them “for cause” When you do this as a leader you get a backfill head to hire for. The caveat at AMEX? The backfill head was already decided for you - they were in India, and usually from a body shop firm. Ask me anything about how AMEX is screwing over Americans in the replies. @HarmeetKDhillon @andrealucasEEOC @USEEOC I am willing to testify/name names/do whatever is necessary to curb this anti American abuse.

Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone. They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank. Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews): Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use. Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)

I live in a small town. A really small town. We don’t even have a major grocery store. Just a mom and pop one. It’s the kind of town that by 8 pm everything is closed and nothing but the gas stations and the pharmacy are open on Sunday and Monday. During the Biden admin we were over run by immigrants. They were put in housing, given cash, free health care, there were “groups” of teens walking the streets at night and our schools were over run. They were also the rudest people I’ve ever run into. They are gone. There are houses for rent again, the one apt place we have has openings, our schools are functioning again, there’s no groups of people roaming our streets during the night….its back to being a small town. I do not want them back. I will be forever grateful to Trump for getting them out.
JUST IN: The Trump admin has revoked over 300,000 U.S. visas

BioWare is not, like, a guy. BioWare closing is not like Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino getting fired or cancelled. BioWare is a business entity that existed for 30 years. During that time people — including lead creatives who were responsible for the great games — came and went. Some video game studios manage to maintain a culture and a sensibility around excellence and the key creatives either stick around for a long time or pass the reins to handpicked successors who share their values and preserve the culture and standards of the studios. What has happened in the game industry over the last 15 years is that there came to be a widespread belief that the cultures that incubated excellent games were exclusionary racist, sexist, homophobic boys clubs that needed to change in order to welcome in different kinds of people. Instead of hiring people who shared their values and sensibilities, the people at these game studios were pressured to push their workforces toward being 50% female while achieving racial equity. The staff of the studios changed dramatically, the cultures of the workplaces changed dramatically and the games changed dramatically. The pandemic sent a lot of people into their homes to play video games, which seemed like it was going to drive an era of growth for the industry. At the same time, the new generation of gaming hardware required more detailed assets, more animation, and therefore more people to make these massive games. So there was a huge hiring boom at the precise moment that there was an overarching focus of the demographics of the industry, which means that nearly every Western game studio’s workforce was completely transformed. Over 40% of games industry workers under the age of 25 identified as LGBT or nonbinary on recent surveys. Additionally, some studios have had unique pressures that have driven a lot of turnover. At Rocksteady Games, for example, a lot of the people who made the Batman: Arkham trilogy were not interested in building the live service game Warner wanted, so most of the principals on those games left the studio during the production of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.” The studio cannot pivot back to what used to be its strength at making single player titles after that failure because all the people who are responsible for the classic games are gone. They no longer have that strength. They no longer have the institutional capacity to make great games because great games are made by great people and the great people are gone. A similar thing happened to BioWare during “Anthem.” They couldn’t just pivot back to making great “Dragon Age” or “Mass Effect” games after the failure of “Anthem” because too many people were gone and the culture had changed. They weren’t the same studio and they weren’t a great studio anymore. The BioWare that was shuttered today is not the studio that made “Mass Effect 2” or “Knights of the Old Republic.” That studio hasn’t existed for many years. It was just the “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” studio.

Burning takes $RUNE out of circulation and stops there. Protocol-Owned Liquidity takes it out of circulation too, and keeps it working. Every block, 20% of THORChain's system income goes into the pool that earned the most fees for its depth over the last 3 days. Arbs pair the RUNE with the token on the other side, so the protocol ends up holding RUNE and $ZEC, $TRX or whatever else swappers want most. That position does three things a burned token can't. -It earns swap fees. -It deepens the pool, so swaps get better prices. -And it buys the dip: when $RUNE drops against the paired token, the position trades part of that token for more RUNE, automatically.

AUSTIN MAN walks up to a stranger using a computer on the fourth floor of the Central Library, punches him in the head so hard he's knocked out of his chair, stomps on his head multiple times while he lies unconscious on the floor -- then calmly walks back to his own computer and sits down. The victim is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Police Chief Lisa Davis (@APDChiefDavis) happened to be in the building and made the arrest herself. On a city bus in 2024, Vasquez threatened an 11-year-old boy, cocked his leg back to kick him full-force, then stood up and punched the kid's mother in the face. She's a Spanish speaker and couldn't even understand the threats. A female bystander tackled Vasquez to protect them. He punched her in the head repeatedly. All was on video. Child endangerment charge and two assaults charges. Dismissed. Six months before that, he punched a CapMetro bus driver in the mouth hard enough to cause a bloody laceration. During the arrest, he called an officer a racial slur and spit directly in his face. Felony harassment of a public servant. Dismissed to "pre-trial diversion." He also had a felony terroristic threat against a public servant. Also dismissed. His Travis County record: • 10 cases • 3 felonies -- all dismissed • 4 assaults -- all dismissed • 0 jury trials Now someone is fighting for their life in a hospital because a man with a documented pattern of unprovoked violence kept walking out of the courthouse.

🚨NEW: Just-released chilling video footage—previously withheld from the public by Chicago officials—shows the brutal “Loop Puncher” attack on an Illinois mother that took place two months ago. The video captures Kathleen Miles walking home from work with a friend when she is randomly assaulted by William Livingston, a career criminal with more than a dozen prior arrests since 2012 for battery and aggravated assault. Livingston can be seen running, placing himself between two women and punching Miles without warning, knocking her to the ground. Disturbingly, he remained at the scene, casually watching her lie unconscious in the street as bystanders rushed to help. The footage, which lasts over 10 minutes, shows Livingston calmly observing the aftermath of his attack. Miles sustained multiple facial fractures, a black eye, and a concussion. Records show that Livingston has a long history of similar violent attacks. Despite repeated arrests, he has benefited from progressive policies that downgraded felony charges to misdemeanors and from lenient rulings by activist judges—allowing him to be released time and time again to reoffend, targeting women.

This shit is literally blowing my mind. >Black man kills a white girl >Has sex with her corpse >Not charged with murder >$15k bond >Chud the Builder shoots a black man after he assaults him >Doesn’t kill him >Charged with attempted murder >$1.25 MILLION dollar bond We have a two tiered system of justice where criminals walk free and the innocent are imprisoned.

This is cool
Was recently at a bar where drinks were dynamically priced, i.e. the more people bought a particular drink, the more expensive it became (price would then decayed over time towards a floor). Fascinating to watch a few market mechanisms play out in a bar: People ventured outside their usual orders in search of cheaper alternatives, often discovering new favorites in the process. Others treated rising prices as signals of quality, happily paying premiums to try expensive drinks they’d never had before. More experienced drinkers behaved like value investors, picking up underpriced drinks they already knew were good while everyone else chased the popular ones. Price discovery, information leakage, herding, and utility trades all unfolded over rounds of drinks. More bars should try this.

⚡️ 10/19 @THORChain Update ⚡️ Yesterday TC suffered a small ($1.5k) exploit via GAIA (cosmos:native) chain. TC's automated Solvency Checker caught this and then paused the chain, limiting TC's losses. The fix for this ships in the Friday release of 3.21; trading and signing remain paused until then. This disruption is just one more in what has become a long string of GAIA issues, and TC has been discussing retiring GAIA support con't
⚡️ 9/13 @THORChain Update ⚡️ Devs have been hard at work restoring full network functionality and stability. $SOL, litecoin:native, and cosmos:native/GAIA chains have all been re-opened for trading GAIA was what had been blocking the churn, so with it restored churning has once again resumed This brings the network a significant step closer to adding $XMR and $ZEC chains and pools No hard date for either, but hopefully in the next few weeks
