We challenge ways of thinking that present abortion as the ‘solution’ to poverty, abuse or injustice – ‘treating’ symptoms while leaving systemic and structural causes unresolved. Abortion policy is complex and increasingly shaped by ideologies and opinions rather than evidence. However, the impact of various factors cannot be ignored – medicine and biology, law, broader culture, human rights and responsibilities, education, economics, religion and philosophy. The current public debate, if it happens at all, is increasingly polarised and too often does not serve the complexity of the issue well. In such polarising debates, women and their unborn children, who are most affected by abortion, become a secondary focus, as voices get louder, and debates become more volatile. We don’t claim to have an easy solution to hard ethical dilemmas, but we do have hope for a better, more human way forward. A way that respects, protects, and includes both lives. This is too important to fight through a culture war. Find out more about what it means to be pro-both lives: podfollow.com/1838921586

Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince Alois has vetoed a bill that would have legalised abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, saying the bill "is not suitable for adequately protecting unborn life as a central legal interest," He also affirmed the importance of better information, counselling and support for women before, during and after pregnancy. Meanwhile, Poland’s Parliament has narrowly passed two bills seeking to liberalise abortion laws, although both are expected to face a presidential veto. These developments highlight the ongoing debate across Europe about how we protect unborn lives while ensuring women receive practical and life affirming support. This should never be a settled issue, in the UK or beyond. Image source: politico.eu/article/liechten…

“Yesterday marked 59 years since the Abortion Act 1967 received Royal Assent. This anniversary should prompt serious reflection on how we as individuals, churches and society support women and protect unborn lives. More than 11 million abortions are estimated to have taken place since the Act came into effect. Recent figures put the annual UK total at around 300,000 — approximately 800 every day. Behind these figures are real women, and real unborn lives. We cannot simply accept the status quo. We need a renewed commitment to practical support and meaningful, life-affirming alternatives for women facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies. Yesterday, also marked the National Day of Prayer for Life. We had the privilege of hosting dozens of people at an online prayer meeting, with hundreds more accessing our PDF prayer resource to join us in praying for both lives in pregnancy. We heard the voices of women sharing painful experiences of abortion and speaking of babies they still remember decades later. Their voices deserve to be heard with compassion and without judgement. Our call is clear: no woman should feel that abortion is her best or only option. We want a society where women have the practical, emotional and financial support they need to continue a pregnancy, and where both mother and unborn child are valued. We can, and must, imagine better for both lives.” - Dawn McAvoy, Both Lives UK lead National day of Prayer for Life prayer resource: eauk.org/assets/files/downlo… Source and additional information about how this number was calculated: righttolife.org.uk/news/59th…

The National Day of Prayer for Life takes place on 27 October each year to mark the date the 1967 Abortion Act was passed in the UK. This legislation provided legal defences to abortion in England, Wales and Scotland, and has led to the loss of over 10 million lives. For many years, Northern Ireland remained a place where unborn children were protected in law. But in October 2019, new abortion legislation was imposed on Northern Ireland by Westminster. This month now carries a deep weight across all parts of the UK. It reminds us of the lives lost, the women and families affected, and the urgent need for prayer, compassion and action rooted in love and truth. We are honoured to now carry this legacy forward by hosting the National Day of Prayer for Life, inviting the church once again to stand together in truth, compassion and hope. Join us this evening from 8-9pm for a special prayer meeting on Zoom. To sign up, please email Lisa - [email protected] Together, we will lift up the unborn, women, and families in crisis, and all those carrying the weight of past decisions. Is this as low as we can go? The ultimate cheapening of life and the commercialisation of death? Abortion pills like sweets to take with little consequence for the consumer and the unborn life of no more value than the sweet wrapper that’s thrown in the bin. thetimes.com/world/europe/ar…
