This is something I try to emphasize all the time. Reduce your bad holes, don't play for more birdies
Every golfer I know is trying to get better, and I am sure you are no exception.
If you are a 10+ index now, what does it take to get to a 5 index?
The one thing you can scratch off that list is more birdies. That does NOT play a big role in getting better.
➡️15-index players avg 0.5 birdies per round
➡️5-index players avg 1.2 birdies per round
There is 10 shots of skill difference between a 5 and 15 index, but only 0.7 of those 10 shots is because of more birdies.
Yep.
Only 7% of the scoring difference between a 15 index and 5 index is because of more birdies.
The key to getting down to that 5 index isn't a whole mess of great shots.
The key is reducing the really bad shots.

Solid ball striking round but disappointing putting day during 1st day of DJGA Championship. Hit 16/18 greens but had 35 putts.

The old "Texas wedge"!!!
Should you, or should you not, be using your putter from off the green? I was curious so I did a deep dive in the Arccos Golf database to see what was what.
I still get a lot of people reaching out to me about this topic. Most of the emails and DMs are golfers thanking me for sharing this info as it has helped them get better around the greens.
