#Bottleovenoftheweek Raw materials have been processed for the pottery industry at Furlong Mills since it was founded in 1842. The two calcining kilns date to 1900-24 and were used to burn flint so that it could be more easily crushed and ground for use as an ingredient in clay.

We’re starting a new #Bottleovenoftheweek thread to introduce you to our members sites. First up @moorlandpottery, founded in c.1888. It has one of only 3 muffle kilns left in Stoke-on-Trent. Built 1924-30, the kiln is an unusual 2 storey example.
