Researchers at @CleClinicHVTI found age is superior to aortopathy phenotype as a predictor of aortic mechanics in patients with bicuspid valve. Get access by logging in to #JTCVS: doi.org/10.1016/j.jtcvs.2023…
@Bptkramer @EricRoselliMD

ALT In total, 105 adults undergoing elective ascending aortic replacement in the setting of bicuspid aortic valve were enrolled. The aorta was resected en bloc and cut into specimens for uniaxial or biaxial testing from the aortic root, proximal, middle, and/or distal ascending regions. Age, ascending aortic length, and maximum ascending aortic diameter appeared the most frequently in variable importance plots denoting contribution to models of physiologic and failure metrics. We conclude that aortic tissue stiffens, withstands lower wall stress, and weakens with age. Bicuspid aortopathy phenotype and valve morphology were not associated with mechanical behavior. VIMP, Variable importance.

Awesome presentation by @EricRoselliMD on the evolving role of endovascular aortic repair. Complementary technology that will allow us to treat more patients, treat patients earlier, and treat patients more precisely. #AATS2024 @AATSHQ @AATSED @CleClinicHVTI #AortaEd
Proud of my mentor @EricRoselliMD talking about, and leading, the future of endovascular devices and technologies for managing aortic disease. The future starts now!

Overwhelming success at these morning session for Dissecting Dissections @AATSHQ #AATS2024 standing room only.
This is one of the best programs I’ve seen. Applause and accolades to @LarsSvenssonMD for leading a truly outstanding meeting.
Managing the aortic root in the setting of aortic dissection! 🫀
1. Well-functioning aortic valve
2. Alleviate coronary malperfusion
3. Obliterate false lumen
4. Replace when necessary
Excellent, clear, informative presentation from @OuzounianMD #AATS2024 @AATSHQ
Don’t forget: replacing the root is okay in the correct setting, but try to spare the valve!
1. Young Patients
2. More Stable
3. Normal Aortic Valve Cusps
4. Surgeon Experience

Managing pregnancy in aortic dissection. Incredible experience by Chinese Collegues at #BeijingAbzenHospital.
From their experience:
1) Repair after 28 weeks of gestation has best outcomes
2) Single stage delivery with concomitant C-section+Aortic Repair 🫀#AATS2024 @AATSHQ
