A few months after we broke up, I started receiving messages about an outstanding loan of $5,000. At first, I thought it was a mistake because I had never borrowed that amount of money. When I contacted the loan company, I was shocked to discover that the loan had been taken using my personal details.
I immediately suspected my ex-boyfriend because he was one of the few people who had access to my information. When I confronted him, he initially denied everything. After several arguments, he finally admitted that he had taken the loan, claiming he intended to pay it back before I ever found out.
I was furious and hurt. It wasn’t just about the money; it was the fact that he had made such a serious financial decision in my name without asking for my permission. I told him he had no right to do that, but instead of taking full responsibility, he kept asking me to give him more time to settle the debt.
Meanwhile, the loan company continued contacting me, and I became worried about the possible consequences for my finances and reputation. I struggled to sleep because I couldn’t understand how someone I once planned a future with could betray my trust so badly.
Eventually, I decided to stop arguing with him and focus on protecting myself. I contacted the loan company to dispute the loan, explained that I had not authorized it, and began gathering evidence of our conversations.
That experience taught me a painful lesson: loving someone doesn’t mean giving them unlimited access to your personal information. I had lost a relationship, but I wasn’t prepared to let someone else’s actions destroy my future as well.
