A year ago, the Happy Pigeon project was hatched. 150 pigeons, 25 colonies, 3 cities and tons of poo later, we move on from fieldwork in 🇩🇪to lab work in🇩🇰! With enough luck, we’ll also see its spinoffs next year: the Healthy Pigeon Project, and Greedy Pigeon Project! 🕊️

(Don’t) look up - our field trials are now underway, in a ceiling space near you…Can we get feral pigeons across Germany to weigh themselves?

For fieldwork this Easter, our hunt for feral pigeon eggs takes us inside the roof of a 900 yr old church where pigeons have been building nests out of the carcasses of other pigeons. Underestimate at your peril!

In 1919, the DuPont Corporation launched a campaign to eliminate the crow. Was this a public-spirited campaign to protect crop yields in the aftermath of World War I, or just a cynical ploy to sell more ammunition? Read more at my link in bio

The perfect approach to boiling an egg, researchers found, was cooking it in 100°C water for 2 minutes, then 30°C water for 2 minutes, and repeating for a total of 32 minutes. scim.ag/4hEpmiK @NewsfromScience

Fun Fact: When threatened the hognose snake will dramatically writhe in pain and turn over onto its back sticking its tongue out. If it's turned back onto its stomach it will flip back over insisting its really dead! They even emit a smelly odor 🐍☠️🤪

Fun Fact: Thorny devil lizards drink water with their feet. They step in water on the ground and the grooves on their skin channel water to their mouths through capillary action. This allows them to drink passively without lowering their guard.🦎🥤🐾

Fun fact: Pistol shrimp snap their claws to create bubbles that stun or kill prey, generating shockwaves that are as loud as a gunshot, and produce a flash of light with temperatures as hot as the surface of the sun. 🦐🫰💥 #naturalhabitatshorts #naturalhabitat #naturalhabitok

I submitted a silly research proposal to a serious science body asking: between freedom and security, what makes a pigeon “happier”? Good news: my bird-brained science is competing for funding in its final round! 😎🕊️

Dr. Ally Louks's PhD thesis is set to be one of the most influential theses of 21st century. Puts forward an original argument with remarkable clarity. Already has 85M+ views on X/Twitter. Most people criticizing her don't understand her argument at all. I have a PhD in literary studies, and in this thread, we'll do a close reading of her abstract to understand her argument in simple English.
