American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.

really? what a narrow view! Anderson did in fact write sympathetically & convincingly about girls & women; even Hemingway has a story from an adolescent girl's perspective, "Up in Michigan," that is a knockout; not to mention D.H. Lawrence, Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Hardy & (not least) Shakespeare. if men can't write about women, women presumably can't write about men. educated people can't write about lesser-educated people, Black writers can't write about brown people, people from Maine can't write about people from Vermont, no one can write about anyone except the sickly face in the mirror.
Replying to @JoyceCarolOates
Yeah and he's a man purporting to write about a woman's inner life. I'll pass.

Israel has murdered a who's who of frontline journalists exposing its crimes in southern Lebanon, so I have little doubt it destroyed Radwan Mortada's family home as revenge for his blockbuster investigative documentary on the pager attacks His home was several km behind the Israeli-imposed yellow line, so the occupying soldiers went out of their way to blow it up The photos in @wyattreed13's report illustrate what a devastating loss this is Earlier this year, Israel was destroying 1000 homes a day in southern Lebanon

Real Bearcats fans would obviously hit Skyline Ludlow - George Clooney's favorite location of the dominant Cincinnati Chili chain, a ten minute walk from Nippert in the heart of Clifton - as opposed to Price fucking Hill. What a fraud.
Let’s go Bearcats! Celebrating at Price Hill Chili on the west side of Cincinnati soon.

Aaron Ashby is putting together arguably the greatest postseason performance by any reliever: 7 games 14 innings 14 strikeouts 0 runs 4 hits 3 walks From Travis Feldhaus of ESPN research: The record for scoreless relief in any postseason was set by Goose Gossage in 1981, when he had 14 1/3 innings, zero runs allowed.

I think Bill Hicks was right when he said that celebrities who do commercials should be "off the artistic roll call forever" - and back then he was only talking about Jay Leno shilling for Doritos, not every modern celeb promoting the Life-Ruining App xitter.cf/Variety/status/2113656…
Shane Gillis and Danny McBride play feuding weathermen in a new four-minute Kalshi ad. “In the past year I’ve made some questionable trades on contracts for local weather, Costco hot dog prices and cricket,” McBride said in a statement. “Working with Kalshi to make this very unique ad was a great way to both make amends on some of my questionable predictions, but also get to work with Shane, and reunite with my good pal, Deep Roy.” variety.com/2026/tv/news/sha…

Something interesting about this (other than the @esaagar cameo) is that it seems clear 2018-2024 Dems would have never countenanced messaging from a competitive candidate in a major race like, "Free speech IS under attack and we SHOULD make America healthy again"
A head-turning new "Michigan First" ad from @AbdulElSayed - he names some issue he agrees with MAGA voters on, then plays a supercut of Fox News hosts/Tucker praising him or bashing Mike Rogers. semafor.com/article/10/23/20…

Not every film's rehabilitation portends an advance in critical discernment; some represent its nadir!
The Marie Antoinette wars (cf. the sniffy reviews and the divisive @TheNYFF press screening) indeed heralded a revolution in cinematic style and taste—it's now aptly acclaimed, and its new restoration's NY première is at @ParisTheaterNYC at 6pm, +a Q. & A. with Sofia Coppola:...

Never watched the Golden State Warriors of this era implode against a potentially bad team quite like their home opener tonight. Father time is undefeated. This is, at last, a 30 win team.

What is the oldest political news story you can remember? For me it's Joe Biden being selected as Obama's VP.

Manfred, a risible figure until recently, seems to understand that its violence against their fans that the Brewers cannot expect to retain Misiorowski, or the Rays Aranda, which is to say he understands MLB needs meaningful corporate socialism - and so does the player's union.

That was the single most ill advised stolen base attempt I have ever seen in a World Series and I have watched about 35 of them or so.

TE Drew Sample fucked up but in fairness he seems to have been distracted by a smile child and subsequently found himself trapped. Otherwise the boys handled this profound unpleasantness with about as much grace as humanly possible. xitter.cf/char_cliff/status/2112…

Phoenix is the 5th largest Metropolitan area in the country, Dallas the 9th. Baseball fandom is so regional and its economics so skewed in favor of the VC owned coastal legacy clubs and a few outliers, that one can credibly refer to teams in those cities as "small market".
Two great teams are in the World Series and one of them is going to win it for the first time. High drama. I’m in. But it’ll be interesting to see who watches. Here’s the last 10 years of WS ratings w/ the low-water marks being COVID & another small-market series: Rangers-DBacks.
