NEW PUBLICATION 🎙️ Delighted to see my new article on the UK’s industrial policy out in Geoforum.
It looks to demonstrate why industrial policy in the UK, and by extension the Net Zero transition, is limited by a City-Bank-Treasury nexus.

Growing up in a part of the world repeatedly affected by algae blooms, the mess in Lough Neagh this summer had a weird sense of déjà vu

In one fell swoop the govt has
🔖 broken a manifesto pledge
🚣 reneged on countless environmental commitments
🌊 abandoned the polluter pays principle
⚖️ written bad law
🔍 ignored the public and experts
🤝 undermined trust

📢 After 9 months of debate the #REUL bill should now go on to achieve #RoyalAssent
Peers argued brilliantly for environmental safeguards & more parliamentary scrutiny
+ the whole sector campaigned hard for stronger protections
Fuller reaction later, but our immediate view 👇

In a new working paper @jevershed01 and I explore the Windsor Framework's impact on trade through Wales, taking Welsh ports as a case study of how devolved institutions are being marginalised (and of how narrowly "the Union" is construed) during Brexit:

📢 @georgiefacing @nationaltrust gives a powerful testimony of why the govt should include an environmental safeguard in its #REUL Bill.
🚩 She also flags why Parliament's role must be strengthened.
🌱 The consensus for common sense is growing!

New paper out in @jepp_journal building on @BrexitEnv work - let me tell you about it, it's pretty neat 🤓!
We ask: where is UK env public policy going after #Brexit? Is there big UK-EU divergence? And what about intra-UK divergence? 🧐

I argue in this blog that the Windsor framework is a welcome improvement of the #NIProtocol, but there is still more work to be done to address unfair competition and democratic deficit.
Concluding our Windsor Framework blog series, @Geo_Asiamah explores the effects of the framework on agri-food governance. Don't miss it!

Peers from across the House have written to the @Telegraph arguing that - in its current form - the #REUL bill would give ministers 'virtually unlimited powers' to change rules behind closed doors.

The Retained EU Law Bill:
🧨Is an economic & environmental wrecking ball
👩⚖️Would allow Gov to change laws with almost no scrutiny
⛔️Won't allow improvement of environment protections due to “regulatory burden”
