Today, I am directing every state to prioritize educators for vaccination. We want every educator, school staff member, and child-care worker to receive at least one shot by the end of this month.
It’s time to treat in-person learning like the essential service that it is.

#ReadAcrossAmerica Day is next week. Many schools still spend the week centering Dr. Seuss. But it's important for educators to understand and discuss his history of racist caricatures—and think about the message sent when he's celebrated uncritically.

Had our 1st We Got This! book club meeting! Powerful conversations full of vulnerability, reflection, & a motivation to do better for our students! Huge thanks to @MaineTOYA & @tedlund1 for their support with planning & funding & to author @MisterMinor for sparking action!
Can’t pull my kid away from How I Became A Ghost by @tim_tingle and he wrote more in his reader’s journal than I have ever seen him write in one sitting. AND it’s inspiring him to learn more about the Trail of Tears. So many wins.

This was me yesterday on our first student day. Wearing my game face under my mask. Students and staff were AMAZING! Lots of kids and adults walking in appearing nervous but leaving happy.❤️
I've advocated a long time for this! Consider coming to join me in Southern Maine! Let's do amazing things together! servingschools.com/job/p4cql…

I’m so not into policing the way student’s come to class. Wanna attend from your bed? Cool. In your car in the Target parking lot? Great. Wrapped up in a Sesame Street comforter? Stay warm.
Listen I’m just happy you showed up.

“An anti-racist teacher recognizes that racism exists in our school system. Second, an anti-racist teacher agrees that to do nothing about the racism in our school system is to be complicit.”
