Lula’s win against Bolsonaro is a decisive defeat for the far right everywhere & for Washington’s push to restore full hegemony in Latin America. This comeback after losing the first round was made possible by political mobilization of recent weeks led by Brazil’s mass movements.

BREAKING: Workers' Party leader and incumbent president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has defeated far-right Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazil's runoff election. Flávio, son of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, had clinched a first place victory over Lula on October 5 in the first round of elections. Since then, progressive movements had focused on intense street mobilization and outreach on social media in an effort to flip the vote. In recent weeks, reports emerged that US tech giant META had been boosting Bolsonaro's content across platforms and deliberately restricting Lula's. On election day, further interference in favor of Flávio was registered when right-wing leaders in several states considered progressive strongholds, intentionally cut or decreased transportation services, directly infringing on Brazilians' right to vote. In response, the electoral court extended voting for two hours. Today's outcome marks a significant defeat of the pro-US far right in Latin America.

🇨🇺As the annual UN resolution vote to lift the blockade on Cuba approaches, we must stand in solidarity with Cuba. Solidarity is not a crime the blockade is! The Trump administration, Marco Rubio, and ultra-right interventionists want you to believe their genocidal lies. The only threat to the lives of millions of Cubans is the blockade, which blocks food, medicine, and fuel and disrupts everyday life—it is a silent war. Cuba is not a threat, the blockade is. We say no to the blockade and no to war. Let Cuba Live!

Trump here does a widdle baby voice to mock people who are complaining about high gas prices, explaining that the oil and gas industry is making “hundreds of billions, trillions.” It’s never been clearer how much he hates the people who voted for him.

“Socialism is not simply about the policies that we put in place but who fundamentally controls society.” Houston-based organizer with the PSL, Rachel Domond, joined hundreds at the Minnesota Socialism Summit to talk more about what socialism really means: fundamentally taking the power out of the hands of the billionaires, and putting it into the hands of working people. It’s not enough to change policies — workers make this country run, and should run the country, too! We need an organized movement to fight for the socialist future we need and deserve. 🇵🇸 “That could not have happened without every single action, big or small.” At last night’s PSL Action Network webinar, Layan Sima Fuleihan spoke about how the Palestine movement has helped destroy AIPAC’s image. Three years into the genocide in Gaza, the tide has turned against Israel, and the masses of people won’t be fooled by the Democratic Party machine’s attempts to wash Palestinian blood off their hands.

Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews): Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use. Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)

"They’re killing you because you’re under a class system.” BT sat down with Marquell Bridges, a Mississippi-based community organizer working with the family of Kohen Wiley, who was sitting on his mother’s lap inside a car in a Walmart parking lot when he was shot and killed by Senatobia Police Officer Hunter Foster in June. Bridges, who joined Kohen’s father Daveon Williams and other grieving families in St. Paul for the March for Stolen lives, said the officers responding to a shoplifting call over an alleged diaper theft were informed three times that there was a baby present before Foster opened fire, including when Kohen’s mother Vellesiya Wiley held the boy up to show him to police. No charges have been filed against Vellesiya Wiley or the driver of the vehicle, who was also injured in the shooting. Demands for the release of police and surveillance video are growing across the US, after Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch's office announced Monday it had determined Foster's use of force was justified — meaning he will not face criminal charges for killing the baby.

Concerned residents packed the Utah County Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday after it unanimously approved a widely unpopular data center ordinance without allowing public comment. Police quickly moved on concerned residents – including swarming one young woman, dragging her out of the room, and slamming her onto the ground. The woman was left with a concussion and a bruised and swollen jaw. She spent the night in the ER after being released from jail. An emergency rally was called for Wednesday in response to the brutality. Community members are demanding the termination, arrest, and prosecution of the offending officer – identified as Phil Crawford.

I have pointed out many similarities between now and February, when the US was engaged in diplomacy, but Trump had already decided to attack. But there is one significant difference as well. Back then, Trump was driven by hubris and criminally erroneous Israeli advice. Israel had convinced him that he could bring down the regime in a few days Today, he appears to be driven by another emotion: Revenge. There is a vindictive element to his calculations now because of his anger over how Iran has ruined his presidency, as he is likely about to suffer a humiliation in the midterms. So the push toward a new war is no longer necessarily driven by a (flawed) geopolitical calculation, but rather by one man's need for revenge against a country Trump himself CHOSE to attack...

I'm old enough to remember Ukraine before February 2022. Before the great PR makeover. Before billions in British public money started flowing. Before the swastikas were quietly airbrushed out of the picture and yesterday's neo-Nazi problem became today's inconvenient history. Back in January 2015, Ross Kemp travelled to Ukraine for his Extreme World documentary series, investigating the rise of the far right and the Azov Battalion, including its neo-Nazi elements and symbolism. This was British mainstream television, not Russian propaganda. Funny how quickly history gets rewritten when the geopolitical interests change and the public chequebook comes out. Of course, Ukraine's corruption, extremist movements and internal divisions didn't magically disappear in February 2022. But suddenly, mentioning what British journalists had openly reported for years was enough to get you branded a Kremlin sympathiser. Well, here's Ross Kemp reporting from Ukraine in 2015, long before the political rebranding. No Russian bots. No Kremlin script. Just the history they would rather you didn't remember.
