We know that microplastics are harming our bodies, but what’s been less clear is exactly how that’s happening. A major new study from scientists at @Columbia provides insight into how: the combination of microplastics and water create highly reactive chemicals.
Reports @shannonosaka for @washingtonpost, “These chemicals, known as reactive oxygen species, are known to contribute to heart disease, cancer and neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s.”

we predicted in December of last year that 2026 would be the lowest year for gas prices since 2020, nothing was needed. but then March 1, the situation changed drastically and it could be the most expensive year for gas prices ever.
Inflation milestone that looked very unlikely in January:
The average price of gas is now higher during Trump 2.0 than under Biden.
The gap is very narrow but before the Iran war, few thought they'd even be in the same ballpark.

In 1980, Jimmy Carter signed the Mental Health Systems Act to fund community care nationwide.
Reagan repealed it his first year in office.
Federal spending on mental illness declined, and responsibility was pushed back to states that couldn't — or wouldn't — absorb it.
When Reagan emptied the psychiatric hospitals into so-called "community" clinics, those clinics were never adequately funded — and the mentally ill ended up on the streets and in jails instead.
By 2015, 55% of people experiencing chronic homelessness reported emotional or psychiatric conditions.

Eight days before the midterms, House Judiciary Committee Dems released a report this morning examining Trump's ties to Epstein
The report includes a new allegation from a Swiss model who claimed the president raped her during a 1993 beauty pageant in NY. The woman previously publicly accused Trump of sexual assault, but not rape.
The White House says "none of these allegations are true."
