We got your back, New York!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026).

He lied and used the name and address of a real registered voter which is identity theft. To vouch for someone else you have to take an oath and confirm their address. To lie is perjury and voter fraud, more crimes. He was reported that day for his fraud. System worked
My take:
The State has legitimate arguments. Minnesota law criminalizes certain conduct even when no fraudulent ballot is cast.
But prosecutors must establish every element beyond a reasonable doubt, including the ballot-application requirement, intent to facilitate unlawful activity, and the identity-theft felony threshold.
Journalism isn't immunity from criminal law. But deception during an investigation isn't automatically a violation of election law either.
The legal question is not simply whether O'Keefe impersonated voters. It's whether the conduct satisfied the specific elements the Legislature made criminal, most critically here, intent to conduct unlawful activity.

David Michael Levin, one of the DOJ lawyers sent to observe the primary in Minneapolis, went to jail for 20 days in 2016 for hacking voting machines in Florida to prove some kind of a point.
James Edward O’Keefe, 42, and Cam Higby, 26, both face felony charges of unlawful voting and identity theft.
Polling places are the heart of our democracy. Any attempt to disrupt or deceive our election workers will not be tolerated.

I like that every six months a Republican gets arrested trying to prove voter fraud is easy because voter fraud is not, in fact, easy

Leftist streamer Hasan Piker mocked injured ICE agents at a sold-out Minneapolis campaign event alongside Rep. Ilhan Omar, laughing about "funny compilations" of federal officers getting hurt during Operation Metro Surge and joking that "a lot of hip bones were broken."
The comments ignited a firestorm from conservatives and even some Minnesota Democrats. Rep. Angie Craig and Sen. Amy Klobuchar publicly condemned Piker, while Omar's campaign defended her attendance as an effort to mobilize young voters ahead of next week's midterm elections.
Piker, who previously made headlines for saying "America deserved 9/11," has become a polarizing figure on Democratic campaign trails — embraced by some, rejected by others. Omar herself is facing her own scrutiny after HSI agents searched her D.C. home earlier this month and a federal court filing identified her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, aka Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."

yes, this is the issue with the whole concept of "election twitter"! you're judging everything by pixels on your screen, of course you can't understand what's actually happening in minnesota and that of course amy klobuchar is going to win and be governor
get involved where you actually live and understand the terrain. cover those races. speak about what you know, not this "politics as american idol" thing

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon says poll workers immediately reported Cam Higby after he entered multiple Minneapolis polling places in a Muslim costume, used a fake accent and falsely claimed to be registered voters. Higby left when told he would have to sign an oath, meaning the system stopped him exactly where its safeguards were supposed to.
Minnesota law makes intentionally misrepresenting your identity while applying for a ballot a felony, and law enforcement is now reviewing his actions. In trying to manufacture evidence of voter fraud, Higby may have put himself in legal jeopardy instead.
