A gentle reminder that missionary work is still colonialism.
Some of these photographs of Pope Leo XIV are majestic

Yet another example of local fascism taking root - a combo of expanded public surveillance and forced capitalist propaganda in the form of "sidewalk kiosks" controlled, deployed, & operated by a coalition of anti-worker corporations, all thanks to our neoliberal politicians. Yay!

Nelson wants to end public comment, puts it to a vote, she votes to continue public comment because everyone hated her idea

A cool thing more ppl should know is that neuroplasiticity means your brain can bounce back from a lot. U may feel like ur phone addiction or drugs turned ur brain to goop but with a bit of solid effort u can do things you haven’t been able to in yrs, like read books or use maps
Drove from Austin, Texas to the Catskill mountains of New York without using GPS and didn't make a single wrong turn. Technology liquidated my sense of direction and spatial memory but I am rebuilding my hippocampus.

A "small business" being anywhere with less than 500 employees is a fucking joke

All told, Seattle Public Schools, which faces a $94 million budget shortfall, will make just over $900,000 this year on properties that generate many times that in revenues for leaseholders. a bonkers story from, of course, @Pauledroberts seattletimes.com/business/am…

just before smartphones there was a service called ChaCha you could text (242-242) & a real person on the other end would look for an answer & text you back; sometimes they flirted with you too
It was weird going to college before smartphones. One time while out at a bar none of us could remember the name of Fleetwood Mac’s drummer so I called my dad at 2am.

If you asked me back in high school who would be better politically, Dave Matthews or Radiohead, I would not have guessed correctly

so many people (not just students) have this idea that a university is somehow trying to exploit or trick or punish you when it assigns you work. they're trying to help you! they can't teach you anything if you refuse to do any work!

We did it!!! Yesterday the unit voted unanimously to ratify a new contract that will immediately secure hardworking journalists at @CascadePBSNews an average raise of 6.76% and an average 18.3% wage increase over the course of the four-year contract.
