Tuning the band gaps in MOF nanoparticles—Check out the recent article by Khalik, Brozek @BrozekCarl, et al. in @J_A_C_S, which presents evidence of optical absorption and photoluminescence spectra of MOF nanoparticles. These spectra exhibit a blueshift from bulk values as the particle sizes decrease, a phenomenon that cannot be explained by conventional quantum confinement theories. The findings reveal the size-dependent strain in crystalline materials and support the emerging idea that metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) become softer materials when they are isolated as nanoparticles.
