One reason I don't do much Python has been due to the lack of Effect Oriented Programming support. But recently @BruceEckel and I discovered an Algebraic Effect impl for Python called Stateless. Bruce has been spending some time with it and we had the author, Sune Debel, on the Happy Path Programming Podcast to chat about it. Really interesting stuff! Maybe I'll do more Python now. It's been a bit but the Happy Path Programming podcast is back! @BruceEckel and I chat with @jasisz1 about Aver: The AI-native language where code explains itself.

Type checking may become more important in the AI era, not less.
@BruceEckel connects type checking with something broader: effect checking — tracking not just what types flow through a program, but what side effects the code can produce.
The more boundaries we can give an LLM — types, constraints, interfaces, effects — the better it can reason about what it’s generating. Without those boundaries, we hit scaling problems: code may look plausible, but it becomes harder to trust, maintain, or evolve.
Could Python’s type system eventually go further and help us express effects too?

Projects seem to make the assumption from the very beginning that they "must be completed." There never seems to be a plan for when things don't work out. "Failure is not an option" seems to make failures that much bigger.

PyCon 2025 was well worth the trip. I did all things types, presenting at the typing summit and connecting with typing leaders we hope to interview on HappyPathProgramming.com. My presentation came from Chap 11 of my book-in-progress which you can find at thinkingintypes.com.
With composition, the object does what you want it to do, with inheritance, you must do what the base class wants you to do.
I will be at Pycon in Pittsburgh next week, arriving Thursday afternoon and leaving early Monday morning. Look me up/reach out if you're there.
I will be speaking at the Typing Summit on Friday: "Make Illegal Types Unrepresentable"
Lots of new learning about how AI works and what you can do with it!
