I follow interesting, thoughtful people, even if I don't agree with what they say. I block people who are rude and nasty

They beheaded a statue of Jesus on a war memorial for our dead. They left their Arabic graffiti all over the names of British soldiers who gave their lives. But if you so much as draw a picture of their prophet.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to choose to blame the government who has won three straight majorities.
Premier Doug Ford says Ontario needs private career colleges because the former Liberal government (which was in power eight years ago) "destroyed the health care system" and that -- the premier suggests is the "root cause" for why the PCs are reliant on the colleges. #onpoli

Actually, you’re just wasting millions of taxpayer dollars to rip out bike lanes which won't fix congestion but make roads less safe for everyone. All this to feed a culture war. So lame.
We’ve completed the removal of bike lanes along 1.2 kilometres of Bloor Street West, restoring vehicle lanes in both directions.   Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we're fighting gridlock, supporting local businesses and getting drivers moving again.

Not a story apparently
Nigeria.

DW: Trump said he could see closer Canada-EU ties as a hostile act. Are you risking new tariffs? Carney laughs: We've been living with this for some time, and there have been many justifications for trade action... all of them unjustified under our trade agreement.

I will never get tired of seeing this kind of classy approach to politics. After watching the descent of the US, it feels all the more important for leaders to model this behaviour.
Congratulations to Jennifer Whiteside on being named Interim Leader of the BC NDP. I sat across the floor from her for a long time and she is a serious person who works hard for the people she represents. A good opposition makes for a better government, and I expect her to hold us to account while we get to work delivering what we promised British Columbians.

While celebrating his 36th wedding anniversary with his wife, on the Italian luxury cruise ship Achille Lauro, the vessel was hijacked by members of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF). Because he was Jewish and American, Leon Klinghoffer—who was 69 years old and used a wheelchair after suffering a debilitating stroke—was singled out, shot in the head, and thrown overboard along with his wheelchair. Remember his name. Never forget the evils perpetrated by the Palestinians. Read more about Leon Klinghoffer and the hijacking of the Achille Lauro in the post below.
Four armed hijackers executed a 69-year-old disabled American in a wheelchair and threw him overboard into the Mediterranean—only for US Navy fighter jets to ambush their getaway airliner in pitch-black airspace, forcing it down onto a NATO runway for an armed standoff between American commandos and Italian carabinieri. The reason might surprise you. On October 7, 1985, the Italian luxury cruise liner MS Achille Lauro was cruising off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt, carrying hundreds of international holidaymakers. While the majority of passengers had disembarked for a shore excursion to Cairo, four heavily armed militants from the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), led by 23-year-old Youssef Majed al-Molqi, seized the vessel. Their original plan had been to stay undercover until the ship docked in Ashdod, Israel, to launch a suicide raid on military installations. But when a cabin steward caught them cleaning assault rifles in their state room, they panicked, commandeered the bridge, and held over 400 remaining passengers and crew hostage. They redirected the cruise liner toward Tartus, Syria, demanding the immediate release of 50 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. When the Syrian government refused to allow the ship to enter port, the hijackers decided to execute a hostage to prove their resolve: They singled out Leon Klinghoffer, a 69-year-old Jewish-American retired appliance manufacturer from New York who had suffered two severe strokes and was confined to a wheelchair. Forced onto the open deck, Klinghoffer was shot once in the forehead and once in the chest. The hijackers then forced two ship crew members at gunpoint to dump Klinghoffer's body and his wheelchair into the open sea. Fearing international retaliation, PLF leader Muhammad Zaidan (known as Abu Abbas) established radio contact with the ship, ordering the hijackers to steer back toward Port Said, Egypt. In Cairo, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arranged a controversial diplomatic compromise: In exchange for releasing the cruise ship and the remaining hostages unharmed, the hijackers were granted safe passage out of Egypt aboard a commercial EgyptAir Boeing 737 bound for Tunis, alongside Abu Abbas. President Mubarak publicly claimed the hijackers had already left the country, but US intelligence knew the plane had not yet taken off from Al Maza military airbase. When President Ronald Reagan learned of Klinghoffer's murder, he issued an immediate directive: intercept the airliner. On the night of October 10, four F-14 Tomcat fighter jets from the USS Saratoga (Carrier Air Wing 17), supported by an E-2C Hawkeye radar plane, roared off the catapults into the dark Mediterranean sky: Without using radio transmissions or radar illumination, the F-14s crept up on the EgyptAir flight in complete blackout mode at 34,000 feet south of Crete. Switching on running lights and drawing within inches of the airliner’s wingtips, the American fighter pilots rocked their wings and radioed the Egyptian pilot directly on emergency frequencies: "Divert your heading to Sigonella, or face interception." Flanked on both wings by armed Tomcats, the airliner had no choice but to follow the escorts down to Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily. The crisis, however, didn't end on the tarmac. It triggered a near-shooting standoff between two NATO allies: As soon as the airliner touched down at midnight, US Navy SEAL Team Six operators surrounded the plane in tactical gear. Within minutes, fifty Italian Carabinieri and military police surrounded the Navy SEALs with submachine guns, drawing down on the Americans. Italian Prime Minister Bettino Craxi insisted that because the aircraft had landed on sovereign Italian soil and the hijacking occurred on an Italian-flagged ship, Italy retained absolute legal jurisdiction. 15-year-olds Yana and Masha. 💔 Killed by a Russian missile strike on Chernihiv on today. The girls were 10th-grade students. They had their whole lives ahead of them. If only it weren't for Russia.

Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery, Russia. I take it that yesterday’s latest Russian mass killing of civilians in Ukraine has finally put an end to the idiocy of “don’t strike Russia’s oil industry to show your profound gratitude to Donald Trump.”

This Trump-supporting pos bought Stelco knowing he was going to shut it down. It should be taken over and nationalized by the Canadian govt asap.
Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

This is Nagasaki in 2026. Imagine if they spent the past 80 years wallowing in self-pity and blaming the US? It's incredible what you can accomplish when you decide to pick yourself up, move forward, and take responsibility for your own outcomes.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Calgary Opera's magnificent production of Tosca. The performance was interrupted by a Hamas supporter screaming hate messages from the audience. Evil hates beauty. Supporters of a violent death cult committed to the mass murder of Jews, and the imposition of an Islamist theocracy, are of course blind to the beauty of Puccini's music. Why would they have any regard for the hundreds of brilliant musicians and others who spent thousands of hours preparing to stage such a sublime expression of one of the highest forms of art? Of course, they have no compunction about disrupting a crowd of 2400 people who have gathered to be inspired by that beauty. For the Hamas supporters, and their fellow travellers on the far left, their wicked end justifies any means. In a movement where mass rape, killing and kidnapping of innocent civilians is glorified, they don't think twice about marring or destroying great cultural achievements. Think of the violent mobs in France last week, vandalizing and burning to the ground beautiful symbols of French culture and history, while waving their Palestinian flags as a symbol of destructive violence. There is not an Islamist society on Earth that would permit Tosca to be staged. Most of the greatest achievements and art forms of western culture are considered haram by the dark doctrine of Hamas. So it's perversely fitting that they would disrupt such a performance. We should take them seriously when they show us who they are. And we should remember the aphorism attributed to Prince Myshkin in Doestoevsky's The Idiot: "the world will be saved by beauty."

In a perfect metaphor for Putin's Russia, the whole town of Berezniki that contains the massive factory complex that Ukraine just hit is now rapidly collapsing into the earth due to corruption that left potash mines abandoned last decade.
Ukraine has again reached deep inside Russia, targeting the massive Azot chemical complex in Berezniki, Perm Krai, roughly 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border. Azot is one of Russia’s major nitrogen-chemical plants, producing ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate and urea. Concentrated nitric acid and ammonium nitrate are key inputs in explosives production. The same facility was targeted in September and previously in October 2025.
